Fabric, Silicone Rubber, Bed Frame

One is a mixed media sculptural installation that reimagines the bed as a site of embodiment and psychological experience. This project advances my creative practice by continuing my exploration of transforming familiar domestic objects into uncanny forms, merging the recognizable with wet, drooping soft sculptures. It is in dialogue with my research on the abject, particularly by Julia Kristeva, focusing on the destabilization of boundaries between body and object and conscious and subconscious. My work is also informed by Janine Antoni and Do Ho Suh, whose practices engage memory, the body, and domestic space as immersive, somatic experiences.

The process of making this piece centers on saturating dyed polyester nylon fabric in dyed liquid silicone rubber. This method allows the material to absorb and transform into something new that is both textile and anthropomorphic at the same time. The result is a fleshy, wet, and dripping surface that becomes unstable and shifting as the weight pulls the thin fabric down. Here, this organic form is placed onto a white metal barred bed frame, grounding it back into a recognizable domestic structure while still distorting it into something
This work externalizes internal worlds that exist in the mind, sourced from my experience of nightmares, insomnia, and depression. By turning the bed into a vulnerable object of the body, I invite viewers to reflect on their own relationship to this domestic object and how it exists as both a physical space and a psychological one.

This piece was made for my capstone arts course and exists as my final project for my undergrad. ❤️

I always have nightmares about losing control and agency over my mind, body, identity, and memories. I made this piece thinking about the parts of my self that are gone and left with my childhood. I reflect a lot on my virgin hair that I don’t have anymore, the skin that flakes off, the places of my skin that are now pierced and forever dimpled by the marks… These teeth symbolize what falls out during growth and how disgusted I am by loss.

These 50 teeth are casted with plaster from a silicone made mold that I made from a hand sculpted tooth. They are painted with an acrylic and glue wash and sit on top of a sweet old lady’s desk that she sold to me on Facebook.

little repost because I took some better photos 🥰

This sculpture of mine was made at the end of 2025. I was thinking a lot about cyborg feminism and how the body has become a machine that is inextricably connected to technology.

Made from my uncles computer that he left in my parents garage before he left to move back to the Philippines.

I used nylon tights, silicone rubber, polyfil, dyes, and my collection of broken phone chargers. taken in California State University San Marcos by @catelynelle
