I ran a marathon the the other day. Though it’s not a big deal, it still feels like an accomplishment. In the era of endurance athletics as a form of social media and status, it was particularly enjoyable to engage in an activity anonymously.

I’ve come to believe that man is just the sum of his repeated actions. I’m a runner, not because of Strava, an expensive watch, fancy kit, or #running. I am a runner because I run.

At the beginning of August my birthday came and went and I don’t think I really let many people know about it. Lately I’ve been having a bit of hard time with things. Of course, if there are peaks in life, there must also be troughs, but I’m hoping the good times are just around the corner. In the meantime, I wanted to take a moment to express gratitude to all the people that have stood beside me over the years. I know I’m not always an easy person to love, but I hope I bring as much light into your lives as you do into mine. Attached are a random assortment of pictures from over the years and a list of my top 5 favorite songs of all time. I hope you all have a lovely weekend ❤️ by @catfivefitness

It’s the end of an era. Today my iPhone 7 finally died. I got this phone back in 2019 and It was the last phone that I had as a working messenger. Put into perspective, 4 years doesn’t seem like a long time to own something, but in phone years, it feels like a lifetime. I wanted to share this because lately, at least in my universe, consumerism seems to have gone into overdrive. Whether it’s electric vehicles, the latest iPhone, or spending €300 fucking euros on a pair of cycling bibs, the message seems uniform: buy, buy, buy. From where I sit it feels like we as people are no longer products of our character or our actions, but merely the sum of the items we choose to consume. Even at the time that I bought it, this phone didn’t have the sickest camera, or the best display, BUT, it was a phone. It made phone calls, it sent texts, it fucking worked. I believe that it’s the things that we do that give value to the items in our lives, and not the other way around. This phone was in my back pocket through global pandemic. It was with me for the scorching century rides with my Texas and Mexico bike friends. It was with me when I moved continents. It was with me when I was hanging in Madrid with one of my best buds eating paella. It was with me when I was hand in hand with my soulmate, walking on the shores of a beach in Italy. It’s chipped, the camera lens is scratched, and it’s without a doubt the best phone I’ll ever own. Here’s to hoping each of y’all have your “iPhone 7”.
