June @masqueradenyc Recap Pt 2 🥀

First: I have loved POTO since I was 3 yrs old, when I first started listening to the obc recording 24/7. I spent 20+ yrs destroying my feet in pointe shoes, and deluding myself into believing I could be a coloratura soprano.

A tiny sample of the icons I’ve seen since my first show at age 6:

So now I have thoughts on @ryanvona:

🕯️The Voice: OTHERWORLDLY. Somehow even better than last time bc he’s made this role his own and developed new behaviours and intonations that are so special. When he sings “come to me, angel of music” and “cold, unfeeling light”, it’s so unique. I’d recognize his version anywhere.

🎶Music of the Night: smooth as velvet; I want to drown in an underground lake while listening to it. Would happily listen to Ryan sing anything but it doesn’t get much better than MOTN.

🎶Title track: a lifetime certified banger that would rouse me from a coma, and which Ryan performs perfectly authoritatively. 10/10 would obediently sing when instructed to do so.

🎶All I Ask of You Reprise: a performance so tortured and devastating, it made me want to check myself into the psych ward. No other version will ever compare.

🎶Final Lair: excruciating, and all we want is for Erik to catch a fkg break for once (which is like watching Titanic and hoping the boat doesn’t sink, and *that’s* the struggle of loving POTO 🥲).

🥀 The Presence: Unhinged. Charismatic. Intense. Hilarious at times. Terrifying at times (complimentary). Staring into people’s souls nose-to-nose and not cracking is a truly impressive skill, as is silently entering a room, saying nothing, and still commanding the rapt attention of 60 people.

✨The Person: a gem of the highest quality. It is a testament to his acting that he was so perfectly deranged in the show and the sweetest lamb irl. Ridiculously talented, deserving of all the success, and my favourite Erik. 🤍

May Pulse 6 continue ruining me forever 🥀 I will never stop talking about this show and can’t wait to go back. taken in Masquerade New York by @catherine__elle

✨our lives are one masked ball ✨

Or, a belated dissertation on my early birthday trip to see @masqueradenyc in June with @histephrogers.

I can’t stop/won’t stop talking about the extraordinary experience that is Masquerade. Get into it!

First, I had the great honour of being twirled around the dance floor by a very tall, bedazzled skeleton (Broadway phantom/actual legend @jeremystolle). 10/10 life experience, would recommend.

Second, my heart was *once again* blown to smithereens by Pulse 6.

@claireley was absolute perfection. A gorgeous, angelic, crystal clear voice with so much emotional depth that it shook me to my core. She was a delight when we saw her as Carlotta and now she is bringing her immense talent and magic to this show as a principal Christine. Loved her acting choices, specifically how she was so dazed and entranced by the Phantom (same, tbh). She seamlessly fit into this pulse and had so much chemistry with them after less than a week. Her final lair destroyed me. 💔 Captivating, beautiful, heartbreaking, perfect!

I’m well into my third decade of being a dedicated Raoul Hater, so it takes a special person (@dan_jhoy) to break my resolve. Powerhouse voice (like, WHOA, this man has some pipes, his AIAOY will hit you like a freight train), a very talented actor, lovely human and future lawyer! What can this man not do? I could barely function in law school and he’s out here being a superstar while also learning how to draft wills. Bravo!

Also s/o to @seanseamusthompson bc he was SO funny as Piangi and I still don’t understand how he kept his eyes open for so long💀

I have too many thoughts about our Phantom to fit in this post so @ryanvona will get his own thesis in due course 😇

This show is such a gift to my little POTO-loving soul 🥀🤍 So grateful to have been able to see it again! taken in Masquerade New York by @catherine__elle

We don’t ONLY go to Masquerade while in NYC. For example, sometimes we make friends with a Chess producer, watch the Tonys together and drown our sorrows🍷 when Nick Christoper is robbed (ROBBED!!)
