I’m taking on a new project this autumn and winter, that I can’t really chat about properly yet. But it started from a few strands of ideas over the past couple of years.

In the depths of caring for small kids, when it felt like I’d never be able to justify spending time or money on anything as frivolous as a long term photography project ever again, I did two new things.

1- Switched to in-person research. Ditched the algorithms, made myself go to museums and libraries. Reading physical books and printed out essays.

2- Started keeping wishbones. Which genuinely feels like a logical thing to do when you’re from the Isle and in need of a bit of luck.

But being on here has also had its advantages. They don’t know and I’ve never met them irl. But a few people have helped me connect the dots for this research.

@steviemackenziesmith ‘s wonderful reminders to do creative thinking even if you literally only have 10 minutes on a bus. @ryan.gilmartin1 ‘s next level enthusiasm for all things Lincolnshire, our underrated homeland. @rory_waterman and @lincolnshirefolktales for their incredible research. @threeravenspodcast and one of their episodes in particular, that lead me down a very exciting road. Also, @blindboyboatclub for his magical thinking while I do all the boring chores.

But mostly it’s Ben and our boys for persuading me to get weirder, when I should really be getting more corporate and earning more money. Their patience when I tell them that a giant used to live near their great grandad’s farm, but some Tibetan monks live there now, I’m going to see them on Saturday… or we need to drive to Spalding next month to see a thousand year old shoe that was found on a bog body near where I grew up.

Looking forward to the next few months, going on adventures, getting weirder and making some new work. by @catherinelosing

I was so happy to be included in MEZHA a film installation @bow.market @night_cap_cafe featuring sound and films from across Ukraine.

The B-roll was from my British Council Ukraine @uabritish artist residency with support from @vovas.modern.life @natalka.revko @true_grit and was filmed in the village & school my family were from, north of Odesa.

Thanks to @eva_levina for inviting me to be a part of it. Feels great for work to escape the hard drives in new and interesting ways. by @catherinelosing

As part of GLUE, Hot Potato (@hotpotatonews) presents 'Sign Up', a new exhibition exploring photography, collaboration and censorship.

Emerging through ongoing research into Irish-Palestinian solidarity, 'Sign Up' responds to the increased threat of civic censorship and silencing of artists who use their platform to speak out by using collaboration as a tool.

Hot Potato, founded by Naoise O’Keeffe (@naoiseokeeffe), began in Ireland in 2018 with the aim of providing an alternative to typical newsprint with the creative interpretation of politics and global affairs through photography and journalism.

I’m fighting the urge to buy the kids loads of pointless stuff at this time of year. Looking at their most prized possessions, it reminds me it’s rarely what I’ve bought that they cling onto, but things they’ve found or made.
