So grateful to have been able to celebrate Megan and Michael’s wedding last weekend!! I had such a great time reuniting with college friends that I didn’t get many photos! Glad have gotten pictures with the IWU Happy Club Gals, my senior year roommates at the Tree House, and any members of the Hudson voice studio. Came back from my birthday trip and jumped right back into real life so I didn’t have time to post these until now BUT I turned 27 in NYC! Here’s some shots of me with some of the friends I caught up with (and some of the new friends I made), some shows I saw, and some birthday treats I enjoyed! Thanks to everyone for your birthday wishes!! If you know me (or even if you don’t) you probably know I love Shrek!! While it definitely started ironically and for the memes, it’s become an earnest love over the years. I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by friends who supply me with shrontent (Shrek content) and who still follow me on social media (/hang out with me in person) despite the ever present references. The Shrek pillow pet I’m holding was a gift; the limited edition Shrek the Third shirt I’m wearing was paid for mostly via friends who chipped in to help cover the cost after several more friends had alerted me to its existence. My friend Bella (@belladoeswhat_ ) went above and beyond, though, attending Shrekfest- yes, this is an actual event- with me every year since we learned about it and over the years I started to associate Shrek with her. Bella passed away last summer, and I attended my first Shrekfest (virtually) without her a few months later. I hadn’t watched the movie since I’d sat with her in the Shrekfest 2019 crowd. I know it sounds silly (and it is!) but this ridiculous film about loving yourself (especially if you’re different) and the power of friendship has come to mean a lot to me, and no one exemplified that love and power like Bella did. Today, I’m grateful for her and for another friend, Beck (@abaddayforthebeach ), who took this photo of me and who helped me celebrate the cinematic re-release of Shrek for its 20th anniversary, while navigating the nerves of our first Activity post-vaccination, and the grief of our lost friend. We had a great (and safe!) time, and I know she would have wanted that! I only wish she’d been able to come with us. by @catherinequeenofmemes

One year ago, Breonna Taylor was murdered while she slept, when police officers entered her home with a no-knock warrant. I had the privilege of assisting with an event nearly six months ago commemorating 200 days since- creating a space to center the voices and emotions of the Black women who are still with us, and to honor the memories of those who have been taken from us. Now, 365 days since Breonna’s murder, we still have to fight for common sense rules like the Anjanette Young Ordinance, named for another Black woman, this time a Chicagoan, who was traumatized at the hands of 12 police officer when they wrongfully entered her home instead of the one they had a warrant for, then handcuffed her while she was naked for 40 minutes despite her not even matching the description of the person they were looking for. There is no way to right these wrongs, to resurrect the dead or to un-inflict the trauma and indignity suffered by Black people at the hands of police. But we have a duty to fight for the freedom and safety of others- to fight for abolition and, until then, defunding and limiting the power of the police. I put makeup on for the first time in a while for a video and I can’t show you the video yet so in the meantime here’s proof (1) I still exist, (2) I haven’t completely lost my makeup skills, and (3) I’m still cute! {Fun fact: the reason why it looks like I’d just been crying in these photos is because I was!
