A day I’ll never forget. I’m at a time in my life where I understand fear, and it’s easier to say no than yes. But I’ve also learned that saying yes sometimes opens up a whole new, wonderful world. So as of today, I am a certified PADI scuba diver - and I learned the skill in one of the most beautiful dive spots in the world, the Solomon Islands.

Has there been fear, nerves, doubt I could do it? Hell yes there has! But, as they say, I felt the fear and did it anyway.

Highly recommend!

When a birthday becomes a celebration is all about who you share it with, and of course the food. Champagne, seafood, fresh local produce - and party hats, loads of laughs and the opening of a damson gin we first bottled back in the UK in 1998 😳🤯. And yes it was delicious!

Thanks and so much love to @chefvolker for mad skills, the dogs for being dogs - and happy birthday @trevormilford 😘😘😘🎉🥳

Lucky enough to tuck into the new menu at Nelson’s iconic Rutherford Hotel this week! Fantastic local ingredients can only be improved one way - in the hands of innovative chefs. And this menu is an absolute celebration of both.
Hard to pick standouts when there’s literally nothing to choose between - every dish takes you somewhere new. My seafood passion was well and truly indulged from the start - I could eat 100 of those little pāua bites! Salmon these days is a crazy treat, and @chefvolker’s gentle touch is all this melt-in-the-mouth morsel needs.
The weisswurst - seafood sausage, really? Oh yes my darlings, really. Even writing about it is giving me the chills 😊
Find me a tastier GF and DF dish than this fire-roasted oyster mushroom creation, I dare you… Lordy what a bite of brilliance. Excellent wine pairing too with the @neudorfvineyards Pinot Noir - a flavour bomb indeed.
And can we talk about the dedication of the two chefs who went into the wilds of Nelson to hand-pick gorse flowers and made wine with it? The result is a gently sweet, floral syrupy wine that just loves a chocolate friend 💝
This collab between the two chefs was outstanding. Loved meeting old friends and new - although god knows what @mayornickpg thinks of me after my impassioned plea to shout about Nelson’s innovative and growing food and beverage scene a lot louder! Nelson deserves its place among some of the country’s top food regions - but if you don’t tell anyone, how will they ever know?
Thanks for a delicious, delightful and very fun event - the chef’s table experience is one I’d love to see more of.
