If She Showed Up at My Door Today, she’d be holding a completed second draft and wearing a party hat. 🥳

I went quiet here for a while with my reflective posting, not because the story stopped—not because I quit writing—but because it needed finishing.✔️

Turns out, writing a second draft requires less posting and more sitting still with your own sentences, iced coffee, and a furry companion.

Over the last few months, I’ve been neck deep in the second draft of my memoir, If She Showed Up at My Door Today, which was submitted for its second editorial review yesterday.

Yeah, me.😃

I’ll be sharing small snippets, reflections, and moments from the work as it continues to take shape—mostly to see which sentences are ready to behave.

It’s a story of love and loss❤️💔

Of wild vamooses and quiet strength.

Of white picket fences and barefoot dreams.

A breadcrumb trail of scattered truths—dropped across decades, towns, and borrowed beds.

It’s real.
And a little funny, in the way only hindsight can be.

It’s not linear.
In fact, it’s messy.
But it’s mine.

I don’t know exactly when it heads to edit.

But it’s written—heavy on the truth, light on the filters.

Some memories are porchlight warm.
Some left bruises and scars.
Some want to stay silent.
Some are screaming to be heard.

This one’s for anyone who packed up their life before they even learned to unpack themselves.

If love made noise, it would sound exactly like last week.

Pool days, chalk art and coloring, Uno marathons, basketball, golf cart rides, and enough potatoes to keep Idaho in business. 😂

I learned a few new dance moves from Chloe, watched Connor sink shot after shot like it was no big deal, discovered Angelica's creative side, and soaked up every second of the glorious chaos.

My heart always forgets how much these goodbyes hurt when the house goes silent again.

Runner reminds me every day that progress isn't glamorous.

At fifteen, there's a little hitch in her giddy-up, and she doesn't see as well anymore. She doesn't bounce out the door at 5 a.m. the way she used to. Her pace is slower, she stops more often, and some days she just stands with her nose to the sky, as if sniffing the glorious gift of life's breath itself.

These days, it takes her a hot minute to get going, but she still wants her daily walks. She still wants to rub noses with her boyfriend, Teddy, across the lane, and check all the messages the other dogs have left along the sidewalk, especially Bentley's and Maggie’s.

She doesn't seem bothered that she's slower than she used to be or that she can’t jump up on our bed any longer.

She isn't comparing today's walk to the ones she took five or ten years ago in the heart of the desert. She doesn't seem the least bit bothered that this season asks something different of her.

Our little fur girl just keeps putting one paw in front of the other and keeps moving forward.

When I watch her saunter down the sidewalk, I can’t help but wonder how much lighter we'd all feel if we stopped comparing ourselves to who we used to be, five or ten years ago, and simply embraced who we are now, in this season of life.

And her acceptance of life makes me question what else Runner knows that I've forgotten... that we've forgotten.
