Cat (@catjimenez) said something in this episode that hit differently. She needs to model joy for her daughter so her daughter understands how vital it is to her toolkit for life.
Not perform it. Model it.
When did we stop treating our own joy as essential?
Full episode of Mom Life Unfiltered is out now on all platforms. 🎙️ Link in bio. 👆

💬 What does joy look like in your life right now and are you actually making space for it?

Thank you @youngarts Part One.
The 2026 Winners with Distinction in Photography really showed up for this program, and for each other.

While the US continues its downward spiral into darkness, there is blinding brightness coming out of this year’s photographic artists and I’m enlivened by their imagination, tenderness, creativity and brilliance.
It’s a true honor to spend the first of the year with deep thinkers making photographs that continue to illustrate the reasons why I love photography.
Octavia E. Butler said…”There is nothing new under the sun, but there are new suns”. May these Young Artists and their fresh perspectives continue to set forth a momentum of healing and humanity.

Thank you @youngarts and the Photo Panel heavyweight talent @mariearago @tommykha @theblackmanproject alongside the incredible support we received through @alexmediate and @phyliciaghee (not pictured). by @catjimenez

Gabriela Hasbun @gabrielahasbun (she/her)
Lady D, 2019

The New Black West is Gabriela Hasbun’s long-term photographic series documenting the modern-day Black cowboy community—particularly the riders of the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, the only touring Black rodeo in the U.S. Shot over more than fifteen years, the project reveals the vibrancy, style, and resilience of a culture often erased from mainstream depictions of the American West. Hasbun’s portraits highlight the pride, mentorship, and community-building at the heart of this tradition, from ranches in Oakland to arenas across the country. Through her lens, she challenges myths of the cowboy as exclusively white and male, offering a more truthful and expansive vision of the West—one rooted in joy, family, and belonging.
