Five lots of Five!

I’ve been seeing this trend make the rounds but saw @therubberbandgirl do it and wanted to join in!

This was actually so hard narrowing down what to choose, especially with the movie section!! Stick It almost made it but I did ultimately decide on District 9, I’m sorry Stick It you still have my heart 🫶 also kinda face reveal 🫪 by @catscompendium

A list compiling just a few books that feature trans and non-binary characters!!

Would also like to add that using your nostalgia in defence of human rights is embarrassing behaviour!

Anyway: live, laugh, love transgender 🫂

P.S some of these are on my TBR and I haven’t read yet!! Also would love any more recommendations 💖 by @catscompendium

Best and Worst books of the year from Jan - June!!!

This is just my opinion!! And no shame to anyone who loves these books! Some of them aren’t even bad, just weren’t as good as the other books I read!

Will be doing the next 6months at the end of the year of course!

A lil sneaky honourable mentions at the end since I’ve read so many good books this year!!

My September in books, tv and movies!!!

I challenged myself to read 100pages a day through all of September and I (mostly) completed that everyday!! My reading definitely showed for it since I read a whopping 11 books!!!

Since I was reading so much my watching was definitely on the back burner, I only watched 2 movies?? Which is very unlike me but I was too busy loving reading!!

I’ve been very inconsistent with my posting lately! It’s been very busy at work and in my spare time I’ve been reading but I’m trying to get back into being consistent!

I hope you all had a lovely month!! What was the best book you read this month? 💖🧌 by @catscompendium

Ten books I plan to read before the end of the year! 💖

Apparently I wanna read a lot of red and pink books!! There’s a very good chance I won’t get to all these as I love to stray from a TBR 🙂‍↕️

Review: Our Cut of Salt by Deena Helm ~ 4/5

“Evil is a word reserved for the truly supernaturally bad; evil is used to describe behavior that humans cannot fathom. The settlers say that the haunted house in Haifa is evil. Rania knows that stealing homes and land, lives and histories, and then erasing them as if they’ve never existed, that is evil.”

“Our Cut of Salt” follows three generations of Palestinian women, Marina, Haifa and Nuhad. Following the Nakba of 1948, Nuhad was displaced from her familial home. Present day 2002 there are rumours that the house is haunted. Any settler that moves in is found dead under mysterious circumstances.

The premise of this book of course is right up my alley! I love horror that centres on real life historical and current day events. I thought this book was brilliant in the way it explored grief and trauma and the impacts through generations.

I didn’t find this book to be particularly scary and I’m hesitant to recommend it as a horror book as I found it wasn’t the forefront of the story and it may deter readers who are reading it for the horror aspect. It definitely reads more literary with the real horror being the occupation and genocide that these characters are experiencing.

I loved the descriptions throughout, I could visualise what Palestine would look like in the summer! My only issue with this book was that I felt it could have been edited better. There are several moments throughout the book, after a scene, the characters are describing to each other what had just happened in the scene. With meanings and metaphors being explained indirectly to the reader, disguised as dialogue. This felt unnecessary and almost like the reader wasn’t trusted to figure this out themselves.

I would still recommend this book, especially to anyone who wants to learn and understand more on the topic of Palestine. Especially readers who struggle with Non-Fiction as there is great information throughout this story! I will definitely try more from Deena Helm, and thought this was a solid debut! by @catscompendium
