A few times a year, I like to remind people who don’t already know…LILIES KILL CATS.Even a small exposure—licking a petal, brushing against pollen, or drinking water from a vase—can cause acute kidney failure in cats within hours. It’s one of the most painful and irreversible ways for a cat to suffer.Please remember: • No lilies at all in a home with cats • Don’t send lilies to friends who have cats • Watch out for floral arrangements around holidays—Easter, Mother’s Day, funerals, etc.My cat Samson had a brush with lilies in October 2016.He likely survived only because of his massive size—but not all cats are so lucky. I never kept lilies in the house again after that.Signs of lily poisoning in cats include: • Vomiting • Lethargy • Loss of appetite • Drooling or foaming • Seizures or collapseIf you think your cat was exposed, get to an emergency vet immediately. Don’t wait.It breaks my heart how many people still don’t know this. Share this. Tell a friend. I’ve wanted to make a song about this for a long time.A lot of people have no idea how dangerous lilies are to cats. I didn’t either. I’m not a flower person at all.When I moved to Miami from New York, I drove down in a van with my cat Samson, all my gear, everything. Within a couple days of arriving, my brother showed me a little corner where Samson could hang out near some plants and flowers.Samson had just gotten a haircut. He was clean, looking his best.Then I noticed something strange… bright yellow pollen all over his paw and arm. I thought maybe it was turmeric or something random in the house. I tried to wipe it off, but it was stained.Something told me to call my friend, veterinarian Lisa Lippman. At first she said not to worry too much… unless it was lilies.I googled it.They were lilies.I called her back immediately. She said, “Get him to the ER now.” It was a Sunday. I had just moved here. I didn’t know any vets. It was chaos.I got him in, and somehow… he was okay. Maybe his size helped. I stayed up all night watching him. That moment stuck with me forever.Lilies are one of the most toxic things for cats. Even a small amount of pollen can cause kidney failure.That’s why I made this song.It’s simple. It’s emotional. It says exactly what I felt:“you’re so beautiful… why do you kill me?”If you have cats, please don’t bring lilies into your home. Especially around holidays like Easter when they’re everywhere.This is for Samson ❤️ by @catstradamus
