happy october! 🧡 here’s what i read for the month of september

4 physical books
3 audio + physical
4 audio only

i started my acotar reread this month, made some progress on the off campus series and reread knight and the moth to get ready for the sequel. i also got to some that have been on my tbr for a while and a couple book club books with my brothers. there were a couple misses (tropesick, tinker tailor) but mostly great picks!

if you’ve read any of these let me know what you think!

physical tbr challenge episode 1 complete! ✅

last week i pulled the prompt “on my TBR the longest” which turned out to be The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien💍🧝‍♂️🐉🏔️ i have never read any of the lord of the rings books so this was actually a great place to start! the writing style is so whimsical and funny, but there’s real adventure and heart. it’s not a hot take to say this was great!

bilbo has really good development over the story where he starts out a huge scaredy cat and turns into a brave leader. honestly all these dwarves do basically nothing, they’d be nowhere without my mans bilbo. the dwarves are not really individual characters in this story, more of a collective other than thorin.

i listened to the audiobook for much of this and it is narrated by andy serkis. he does such a great job! he fully does the gollum voice (which was awesome but also almost unbearable lol) among other voices, highly recommend that method.

how did they make this small book into 3 movies?? i’ll be revisiting those this week now that i’ve read the book 😂

now on to pick the book for next week! what do you want me to pick?

oops i picked this up over the weekend!! 🗡️🤍🦋🌙
i usually have a no hardbacks rule because i prefer to read paperbacks but i was in the midst of rereading the Knight and the Moth when i saw this and i just couldn’t resist! (my matching hardback of Knight and the Moth is in the mail) 💌

i am so obsessed with the first book, it is the perfect mix of romance and fantasy. the banter!!! no one talks enough about how good the banter is between sybil and rory, i was literally screaming. the disdain they have for each other at first is so good. and the gargoyle is just an iconic character as well, so funny and heartwarming(breaking). i have suuuch high expectations for this sequel, I’m getting to it urgently!

do you want the shelf tour? ✨
i put all (most) of my unread owned books on one shelf! i’m hoping this will help me get to the books i bought or thrifted that i’m still very interested in reading! i didn’t organize it in any certain way so it’s a mix of genres and there are about 104 books on this shelf.

i’m thinking i’ll start a reading challenge to help me get to these. leave your book prompt ideas in the comments!

REVIEW: The Secret History by Donna Tartt 💀📓🏛️

this follows a new student who gets involved with a small close knit group studying greek/classics. i read this with my brothers for book club and we really enjoyed it. the characters are all interesting and well fleshed out. it’s told from the new kid perspective so we’re learning about them at the same time he is. the narrator is very much the observer and he wants to see the good in everyone especially within the group.

parts of it are pretty slow but they serve to build the tension and put you in the shoes of the characters. it’s effective in making the reader anxious.

this has been on my tbr for a while and i’m so happy i finally got to it! really recommend #books #reading #read #bookclub by @catttreads

august was a great reading month! 📚 i feel like i got so much done. it was a good mix of newer releases and books that have been on my tbr for a while! mostly standalones but i did finish one series (monk and robot) and started a couple others (the deal, dungeon crawler carl). i will be reading more from off campus but im not sure i’ll continue DCC. i have now read all of ali hazelwood’s full length works. and i started my reread of acotar!

8 audiobooks
3 physical books
1 kindle book

if you’ve read any of these, i’d love to hear your thoughts!

here’s what i’ve just finished reading, what i’m reading now, and what i’m picking up next! a little mix of series and stand-alones that have been on my tbr for a while!
#reading #books #kindle #read

finally rereading acotar! this will be the second time i’m reading the full series. had to do it to prepare for 6 & 7. i know everyone says it but the last 100 pages of this book go so hard. the beginning has a lot of human stuff that i didn’t remember and never comes up again lol. also i mostly read it with the graphic audio which was an interesting experience. it was fun!

really loved a sorceress comes to call! this was a unique story about a girl who’s mother is a sorceress and is repressive and abusive. the girl really has an evolution and growth in the story and it was really fun to read! i think ill pick up hemlock and silver from this author next

let me know your thoughts on these!

just started rereading acomaf and i’m ready to get to the good part of this series!! lol

the secret history is sooo good. there is so much tension and very interesting characters, i feel like anything can happen. loving dissecting this in book club!

finally read the deal a couple weeks ago and it was such a fun easy read, i figure i should just read the whole series. at least i’ll be more prepared for the show!

life of pi has been on my tbr for a long time. i got this copy at the thrift and i love the mass market size and the beautiful cover
