Cayman had a sensational Reinsurance Roundtable Breakfast in New York!

This week, Premier the Hon. André Ebanks, Parliamentary Secretary Julie Hunter and Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) CEO Cindy Scotland, OBE joined industry leaders at the CIRCA Reinsurance Roundtable Breakfast to discuss Cayman's advancements and priorities for the months ahead.

With Cayman’s application for National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Qualified Jurisdiction Status submitted in August, the focus now turns to supporting the assessment process, evolving regulatory reforms and strengthening specialist capacity for a growing reinsurance sector.

Thank you to CIRCA for bringing Government, CIMA and industry together. Continued collaboration is central to building confidence and supporting Cayman's long-term competitiveness.

🌎International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2026 🏡

“Resilience starts at home.”

Today, on International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, we recognise that, while preparedness of individual households is important, infrastructure and planning policies, inclusive early warning systems, and investment in all communities, are key parts of disaster preparedness

Here in Cayman, we continue to prioritise each of these areas, as agencies like ours work alongside government and other partners, to ensure that our nation remains resilient.

Let us all, from individual households, to national agencies, continue to do our part to preserve our future. 🩵

The Ministry of Education and Training and the Department of Education Services are deeply saddened by this morning’s tragic incident involving three students from East End Primary School, and extend heartfelt sympathy to their families and the entire school community.

Out of respect, and to give students, staff and families time to come together and support one another, the Ministry has suspended classes at the school for the remainder of today, Tuesday, 13 October.

Parents and guardians are asked to collect their children from the school as soon as possible.

Students who normally travel by school bus will be taken home this morning, with buses departing the school at approximately 11:30am. Parents and guardians of these students are asked to make sure someone is available to meet their child at the usual drop-off point. Any student who is not met by a parent or guardian will be brought back to the school and cared for until they are collected.

Members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) will be on site to care for and support students whose parents or guardians are unable to collect them right away. All students will remain under adult supervision until they are safely collected.

Counsellors are also available to support students and staff today and, in the days, ahead.

The Ministry and the Department ask that the privacy of the families be respected at this difficult time, and that the public refrain from speculation, including on social media. Further updates will be provided through official channels as appropriate. by @caymangov

What does it take to keep Cayman prepared for an emergency?

On International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, Captain Tyler Lawson of the Cayman Islands Regiment highlights why preparedness starts long before an incident occurs – with trained people, the right equipment, clear plans and strong partnerships between public safety agencies.

That preparation extends to the wider community, helping Cayman respond when it matters most. Captain Lawson’s perspective reflects the importance of strengthening public safety, emergency preparedness and national resilience.

This is part of Government’s 2026–2028 priority to enhance public safety and strengthen national security.

As Cayman’s needs change, Government must have the expertise and capability to respond effectively and deliver for communities.

Through initiatives such as the Civil Service College Scholarship Programme, eligible Caymanian civil servants are supported to pursue further education and professional qualifications, building skills that strengthen public service delivery now and for the future.

The numbers show Cayman’s fiscal position is solid, but that means little if many families don’t feel it at home.

At the 2026 Chamber of Commerce Parliamentary Luncheon on Friday, Premier André Ebanks MP challenged attendees to think generationally, not just transactionally.

For government, this means intense focus on longer term cost of living measures, particularly generating cheaper electricity, modernising how government does business and opening doors for greater Caymanian ownership and entrepreneurship. For business, it’s about shared prosperity with the community through jobs, mentoring and local investment.
With government and business pulling in the same direction, today’s success and opportunities can become a lasting legacy for the next generation of Caymanians.

Premier Ebanks thanks Chamber of Commerce President Cristina Spratt and CEO Wil Pineau for bringing together leaders from across the country for a conversation that matters today and for the future. by @caymangov
