“This is the book of the generations (toledot) of Adam…” (Gen 5:1)

Genesis 5 isn’t just a list of names, it’s a genealogical thread of hope woven through the long shadows of death. In a world cursed by sin, one man “walked with God.” His name was Enoch. No death. Just presence. Just God.

The toledot structure marks a new chapter in the biblical story and introduces us to 10 members of Adam’s family and foreshadows Jesus; the one who would walk perfectly with the Father.

Enoch points us to Jesus.

BIG NEWS!!!

—————————
This last year has been an incredible season of growth and learning. I’m so thankful for the students, staff, mentors, and community that Lizzy and were gifted with in Massachusetts. It was truly incredible being able to attend Gordon Conwell in person and learn with such a great group of students and friends on campus; as well working with such a vibrant Church.

We’re excited to be back in Minnesota and ready to finish this summer strong with church camp, then back to a full class schedule and Youth Ministry this fall!

God Bless. by @caymendejong

“They were unclothed and felt no shame.” Gen 2:25
In Eden, humanity stood before God fully exposed with no guilt, no fear, no hiding.

But after the fall, shame entered. And for the first time, they hid from the One who made them.

But God didn’t leave them in their shame.
He made them garments, not from leaves, but from the skin of a sacrifice.

From the beginning, God was showing us: only He can truly cover our shame.

That first sacrifice pointed forward to Jesus, who doesn’t just cover our sin, but removes it entirely.

You don’t have to hide anymore.

Comment any other 🌳 in the Bible you can think of!

From the Tree of Life in Eden to the Cross, trees aren’t just background details. They’re important symbols of God’s presence, blessing, and restoration.

In Eden, humanity was meant to dwell with God beside a tree. In Revelation, we return to that tree once more. And in between? The tree that held Christ became the place where life was offered again.

God is writing a story rooted in redemption, and the trees are a part of it.

Genesis 3 is where everything falls apart…but it’s also where God’s plan for redemption begins.

Adam and Eve live in perfect relationship with God (YHWH Elohim) the personal, covenant-keeping God. But when the serpent enters the scene, he only refers to God as Elohim, a more distant, generic title. It’s subtle, but powerful. He’s twisting their view of God—making Him seem restrictive rather than relational.

The serpent tempts Eve by questioning God’s word and character. She takes the fruit, eats, and gives some to Adam. Their eyes are opened, and shame rushes in. They try to cover themselves with fig leaves and hide from God.

But God doesn’t leave them in their shame. He comes looking. He judges their sin, but also gives a promise: one day, the offspring of the woman will crush the serpent’s head (Genesis 3:15). And then, He provides garments of skin to cover them (v.21) which is the first sacrifice in the Bible. A life is given to cover guilt, foreshadowing what Jesus would one day do for us all.

Genesis 3 shows us the depth of the fall, but it also gives us the first glimpse of the gospel.

Ever felt like reading your Bible but you got stuck on the first page?

Genesis 1-2 is a story about God bringing peace to chaos and inviting us into His presence.

In this video, I’m journaling through Genesis 1–2 and pointing out some of the key themes and hidden layers that we often miss:

✅ The deep waters as cosmic chaos
✅ God bringing order to chaos with His voice
✅ Eden as a temple of presence where he will dwell with his creation

If you’ve ever opened your Bible and thought, “Where do I even start?” this is for you!

Let’s learn to read the Bible together!
