This issue is a progress report celebrating 6 issues and a mid way point in this year long project. We’ll be diving into the film Bound(1996) and we’ll be taking you on a queer right of passage playlist journey on our Cazineque top 10s. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma

I was fortunate enough to attend this film’s North American premiere during @newfest Pride. I’m a massive fan of @janedoesnotknow ’s work. “I Saw the TV Glow” was one of my favorite films of 2024, so naturally their next film was one of my most anticipated of 2026 - and it did not disappoint. This year’s Cannes Queer Palm winner is, as one of the film’s stars Hannah Einbinder puts it, a “trans sapphic ode to marginalized communities”.

If you’re a horror fan, you know all too well that the genre has been riddled with problematic tropes throughout the years. This film exists as a way of acknowledging the horror genre’s history of this, while also embracing it as a way to accept your own
“otherness as a viewer and a fan.

If “TV Glow” used nostalgia for the media of your youth as an element of horror when you’re stuck and not moving forward; “Camp Miasma” uses nostalgia as a way of accepting what makes you different instead of running away from it, and using that This movie is filled with much more humor and joy
than “TV Glow”. In fact, if you weren’t a fan of TV
Glow’s gloomy and depressive tone, it’s possible you might like this one more. It’s silly, it’s heady and intellectual, but it’s also sweet

During the Q&A, Jane Schoenbrun mentioned that one of their friends called the film “Carol for freaks” and that’s not an inaccurate description. I recommend checking this out when it hits theaters August yth if you’re a fan of slashers and horror comedy and if you’ve been wanting to see the specific tenderness that comes with sapphic romance depicted in these genres.

Junk Journal Entry : April (2025)

This is an entry from my personal collage/ junk journal from April of last year. I remember color hunting for blue and purple, Blueberry Lavender I called it. I took this form of journaling in the beginning of the year to motivate me, to connect with my artistic self which I thought I had lost all of 2024. I believe I manifested some sort of artistic strength throughout the process. I went on to release music I had recorded with my brother to debuting those songs at 3 Dollar Bill with a live band. Journaling in this art form allowed me to express and process a lot. If you find yourself stuck, just cut, glue, and paste. It’s my therapy. -RC
