Meet the Little Grebe—the smallest and fluffiest waterbird around! 🦆✨
Often mistaken for a duckling due to its compact size, this tiny diver is full of big personality.

Fast Diver: Its scientific name, Tachybaptus, comes from Ancient Greek meaning "fast to sink under." When spooked, it vanishes underwater in a flash and surfaces far away.

The "Powder-Puff" Tail: Notice that fluffy rear end? Grebes have almost no tail feathers, giving them their iconic rounded, puffball appearance.

Built for Swimming: Their legs are positioned far back on their bodies for paddle power underwater, making them master swimmers (though quite clumsy on land!).

Captured this robin over at Two tree Island on thursday 1st oct. With @jpwildlifeandzoophotography i just love the way the sunshine captures the beauty, was tucked away beforehand though as seen in the 2nd image.

Catching air above the waves! 🌊🕊️

These agile flyers are Common Ringed Plovers (Charadrius hiaticula), recognizable by their distinctive black collar, dark eye mask, and bright white belly.

Distraction Display: To protect their eggs from predators, parent plovers will pretend to have a broken wing to lure danger away from the nest before flying off safely at the last second.

Incredible Navigators: Many migrate thousands of miles each year between breeding grounds in the high Arctic tundra and wintering spots along European and African coasts.

A quick perch on the wire before taking to the sky! 🌾🐤

Ground Nester: Despite their name, they actually build their woven cup nests hidden on the ground in dense vegetation or grassy tufts.

Long-Distance Traveler: These small insect-eaters are true migratory champions, breeding across Europe and Asia before wintering in Sub-Saharan Africa.

So yesterday we revisited @howlettspark
And did the wild animal feed with the lions and wow!
"what an experience it was."
As you can tell at the start of this video he startled me a little bit.

This is khari the male African lion, he gets fed x3 times a week various types of meat but mainly horse meat, hes 7 years old and weighs roughly 190kg.
He lives in his enclosure with x2 female lionesses they are his cousins and are younger than him by 3 years.
In the wild they roughly live till around 10years old, but in captivity they have the chances to live much longer due to the medical care they recieve and being looked after by the keepers at the zoo.
On this experience we was also told that Khari wasn't welcomed at the start due to the sisters bond with each other, however they soon warmed up to him and now quite frequently you'll find the 3 of them sat together.

Thank you to my partner @jpphotography.1994
For making it possible to do this experience

Berry Foragers: While tree squirrels are famous for nuts and seeds, they regularly snack on berries, hawthorn fruits, rose hips, buds, and bark to supplement their diet in late summer and autumn.

Master Plant Planters: A single grey squirrel can bury thousands of food caches each year. Because they forget where they hide up to 74% of them, squirrels accidentally plant millions of trees every year.

Incredible Agility: Squirrels can rotate their hind feet 180 degrees, allowing them to sprint straight down tree trunks vertically with ease.
Super Senses: They rely on spatial memory and keen sense of smell to relocate buried food—even under a foot of snow!

Can you spot the spelling mistake I've made?
This bird is a Eurasian hobby, a agile, compact bird of prey.

Rarity & Distribution:
▪︎ They are relatively uncommon summer migrants. They arrive in the UK from sub Saharan Africa around late April or May to breed and depart again by September or October. They are mostly seen across southern, central, and eastern England and parts of Wales, but are rare visitors to Scotland and non breeding stragglers in Ireland.

Conservation Status:
Globally classified as
(Least Concern) on the IUCN Red List. In the UK, it holds Green status under the Birds of Conservation Concern and is fully protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act.
UK Population:
Around 2,800 breeding pairs nest annually in the UK.

Interesting Facts:
▪︎ Renowned for exceptional aerobatic speed, hobbies frequently snatch dragonflies and small birds, such as martins, swallows, and swifts, in mid air and will transfer food from their talons to their beak while gliding.
▪︎ Adults sport slate grey wings with heavily streaked bellies, stark white cheeks, a black "moustache," and distinctive rusty brick red feathers around their thighs and vent often referred to as their red "trousers".
▪︎ The inventor of the classic tabletop football game Subbuteo named the game after this bird’s scientific species name, subbuteo after his trademark application for "The Hobby" was rejected.
▪︎ Hobbies do not build their own nests, instead, they commandeer abandoned twig nests built by crows, ravens, or other raptors high in the treetops.

This photo was taken at Jimmy's farm, on the 10/07/26. Using my new Canon R7 camera body along with my cousins borrowed 70-200mm L series lens due to me waiting to order and buy the 100-500mm L series lens.

Meet the Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo)! 🦅 While often seen soaring on thermal currents or hunting for its next meal, these magnificent raptors are as versatile as they are adaptable. Swipe through to learn some fascinating facts about one of the most widespread birds of prey in Europe!

Perched on the edge! 🌾⚡️ Meet the Meadow Pipit (Anthus pratensis), a subtle little songbird with big personality.

The "Parachuter": During breeding season, males perform a unique "parachute" song flight—fluttering up high into the air and gliding slowly back down like a tiny parachute while singing!

Unwitting Foster Parents: Meadow Pipits are one of the most common target host species for Cuckoos in the UK and Europe.

Absolutely love the kingfisher, it's amazing how fast this little fella flies 💖

Third Eyelid: When diving at speeds up to 25 mph (40 km/h), a transparent third eyelid (nictitating membrane) covers their eyes to protect them underwater while acting as natural goggles.

Fish-Tell-Tales: You can easily tell males and females apart by their beaks! Males have an all-black bill, while females have an orange-red patch on their lower bill (think of it as wearing lipstick 💄).
