Join us for our July General Meeting on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 6:30-8pm PT, online via Zoom. No need to RSVP; all Guild members will receive a link to this free, online event.

We'll be talking with Abby Braithwaite (pictured here), who will share stories from the first four years of the Plas Newydd Farm Arts Initiative, discussing the ways she is bringing regional artists and thinkers onto the land to engage with one of Southwest Washington's largest intact working landscapes.

From willow harvest and basketry workshops, to plein air painting and writing retreats, the diverse landscape of Plas Newydd Farm offers a wide array of opportunities for creative engagement and connection. Learn how one family's approach to land and community stewardship is bringing the creative community together on the land.

In this class, we will explore using paper weaving as part of a weaving practice. Using fun and quick paper weaving exercises builds strong skills for weaving. It's a great way to explore an idea before launching into a project! You will be introduced to different types of natural paper, including Washi Paper (a traditional Japanese paper made from the fibers of the mulberry tree). We will start with cutting techniques, move to weaving exercises, and assemble our work into a class journal. by @cbbg.baskets

Cherry bark harvest with @cbbg.baskets.

We focused on small trees and used the spiral method to harvest the outer bark. This makes very long continuous thin strips - great for finer weaving - the last photo shows that harvest in action. This method takes a lot more time, but I love the small strips ready to weave!

Then, after the outer bark has been harvested, the inner bark is still available to harvest normally.

Thanks to the Columbia Basin Basketry Guild for making these great community harvests available to its members!

Another beautiful day with folks from @cbbg.baskets at the willow plot at @ourtablecooperative

We harvested willow bark from our Lambertiana stand. The sap is flowing less to the tips of the shrubs right now, but the lower trunks and thicker branches are still peeling well.
