The Mile Zero Murders is a special project between CBC Podcasts and the fifth estate (@cbcfifth), investigating the baffling wave of disappearances and murders in the small town of Dawson Creek, B.C., a community struggling with a deadly local drug trade. Host and journalist Timothy Sawa explores missing person cases like that of Cole Hosack and Renee Didier. The question that drives this series is the same one that haunts this community: where is the justice?

Everyone has a party story. This one began at arguably the most unlikely of places… a Shakespeare Festival.

Picture this: It’s 2005. When ‘David Lee Roth’ crashes the backstage party, Becca — the shadow version of hedonistic young actor Rebecca Auerbach — is set on a wild path of self-reckoning.

Personally: Discount Dave (and the Fix) is the true-ish story of a fake rockstar, a real trial and what it means to stop running, face yourself and fight to heal.

Episode one “I Runneth with the Devil,” is an official @Tribecaaudio selection. Listen to the harrowing and hilarious blend of memoir and auto-fiction at the link in our bio or wherever you get your podcasts.

“Trust me bro, it’s the magic of AI” isn’t supposed to be valid scientific evidence in criminal cases. And yet, it’s happening in courtrooms across the U.S.

A mysterious AI algorithm is placing suspects at crime scenes, and in some cases landing them in prison. People don’t know how, or if, this thing even works. So how is this happening? And where do we go from here? Sam Mullins (@samsmullins) pulls back the curtain on Cybercheck in the new season of Uncover: The Expert Witness.

When a meteorologist took a job in Iowa, he was excited to make his forecasts matter to viewers by bringing in climate impacts that were relevant to their lives, like rising costs and energy independence. But then the backlash began, escalating to a death threat. When facts become political, how can climate change’s frontline communicators stick to the science?

When Michelle Good’s mother was in her 20s, she changed her name from Martha Eliza to Elizabeth to sound “less Indigenous.”

Michelle’s new novel, Eliza Sunshine, is rooted intimately in her mother’s life and gives her mother her name back. The novel weaves Eliza’s experiences and Michelle’s family history into a deeply personal story following three generations of Cree women. It’s also informed by Michelle’s experience as a community advocate, lawyer and storyteller and her mission of keeping Indigenous stories alive.

This week, Michelle joins Mattea Roach on #Bookends to talk about why hope is something that moves you forward and the family legacy that inspires this point of view. Swipe through to see family photos submitted by Michelle!

Parliament is back in session and there’s a lot going on: a trade war, talk of Alberta separation, and international alliances being redrawn. Prime Minister Mark Carney has been clear: he doesn’t think the old climate plan he inherited from the Trudeau government holds up to Canada’s new reality. So, where does climate fit in what Carney calls the next “world order?”
