When your buddy @fairhope_fly_guy calls and wants to go for a boat ride, and maybe fish and maybe pull a shrimp net, you say yes. It was good for the soul to go out, set the net and pull it for a bit and see what you get. There is so much adventure going out in Mobile bay. You never know what you will see or catch. It was so much fun to set it and pull the net and just talk about life out on the bay. It was a joy and a blessing. Dinner tonight was a shrimp fried rice. Another opportunity to go out to fish for Snapper and this time my daughter joined us for the adventure. We caught a boat limit this morning and we were home to celebrate the 4th properly. Good friends were kind enough to invite us out on their boat and we are grateful for the trip. Recently I had the extremely fortunate opportunity to travel to Canada again for a baited bear hunt with a couple of friends.

We packed up our bows and gear and headed to New Brunswick Canada in pursuit of the spring black bear. Last year I had one opportunity to shoot and ultimately passed thinking I would get another chance but didn't see another bear. This trip I was less selective on what bear I attempted to shoot recognizing opportunities were not guaranteed.

My worst concern happened, I shot at bear and was unable to recover it. It made me sick but now I'm all the more driven to accomplish this goal. Of the three of us my pal Damian made an incredible shot and we had the honor of harvesting a regal black bear.

All the guys in camp were cool and our week was full of laughter and adventure. We had three of our nights where we were tracking a bear or recovering a bear in the dark of night. There was no shortage of good times, great conversations, and wild adventure.

There is so much here, too much to share in an Instagram post. But today I accomplished something that became more personal and important than I anticipated. This Turkey season has come to a close for me and spectacular fashion. This ole tom had a 9 1/2 inch beard and half inch spurs. Shot him at 12 yards with my grandfather's 100yr old shotgun on land that had been in my family for nearly as long. Got a lot of writing to do but man a weight is lifted. #easternwildturkey #turkeyhunting by @cbhil

An annual trip to @greatsmokynps to fly fish with men from @marshillmobile is a highlight on my calendar every year. From the drive up filled with stories and deepening connection—all the way to the adventures in the park fly fishing for wild trout, this experience is always an encouragement.

The beauty of the national park livens our souls and tunes our hearts to hear and sharpens our vision to see. The sound of the rolling water smooths weariness and the tug of the fishing line awakens hope and optimism.

My beautiful daughter for her 16th birthday wanted to go see the Manatees where they gather in the springs near Crystal River, FL., and that's what we did. Her request and the adventure that followed are a testament to who she is and a look into her heart. An adventure for us all to share both gives and receives.
