Most miscarriage stories I hear start with “I never thought it could happen to me”, so when I saw those two pink lines I made it my business to be conscious that it could in fact happen to me. That every healthy baby is a miracle and we’re not entitled to something just because we want it. When I wake up and remember “oh, I’m not growing a baby anymore today”, or when I scroll passed all of the baby and bump pictures that dominate my feed now, it’s a reminder that although my baby’s life was too short I know I didn’t take a single moment of being pregnant for granted. Our baby was alive and she was real and she mattered to us. She is important. I’ve always been the type of person to mentally fortify myself for the worst so maybe that’s my saving grace in all of this: Maybe I “spoke it into existence” by always reminding myself how fragile the first trimester is or maybe my mothers intuition was just trying to prepare me for this destiny. Strangely enough, I feel Gods presence with me during this loss more than I ever have. I was a warm and loving and doting mom to a baby for 11 weeks, and that’s enough for me.

The doctor said my body absorbed my baby after she passed, and what a sick joke that is - to have had a child and seen it with your own two eyes, and then a few weeks later to only see an empty black mass on a sonographers screen. But after sitting with it, I can’t think of a more poetic ending. I built our baby for almost three months, it didn’t work out, and my body gave her her final embrace. She’s still a part of me, it just looks a little different than we imagined. by @ccamsworldd
