Today marks 4 months since my album ‘Eternity Bores Me’ snuck out without much notice. Under-promotion as a non-strategy aside, I’m really proud of this album as it encapsulates a moment in time for me, of home recording Shoegaze tinged dreampop with Keith Wallace (bass/production) and Brian Kelly (drums) and writing songs with no end in mind other than to make something I’d enjoy listening to myself, and by extension that others might enjoy too.

If you want to support a small grassroots label @rustedrail_records today is Bandcamp Friday where all proceeds of CD and download sales go directly to the makers. :LINK in Bio:

“With A Lilac Decline inaugurated as an anagrammatically anointed solo venture for Ireland-based Swedish visual artist Cecilia Danell on 2017’s sparse psych-folk framed The Mountain Rages, operations have subsequently evolved into more of an ensemble enterprise.
(
)
The ten gathered pieces capture A Lilac Decline’s transitions between introspective pastoralism and wider-eyed stargazing. This isn’t all to say that the up-close intimacy of earlier works has been pushed out of the airlock. Danell’s clear warm Mary Lorson-meets-Nina Persson tones are still front and centre across Eternity Bores Me as the collection radiates across expansive philosophical planes.

Consequently, the soaring “Shadow Days”, with its eddying electro-acoustic guitar meshes and distant drums, acts a sublime take-off moment. Thereafter in orbit, we’re taken through near-weightless Yo La Tengo-tinged astral-art-pop (“That’s What I’ll Do” and “Twilight Wing”); rustic shoegaze sprawling (“Breathing In” and “Here On The Coast”); earthier melodica-driven dreaminess (“Net Of Time”); early Sparklehorse-like banjo-flecked balminess (“Sunset Song II”); and a blissful six-minute string-bending coda smeared with welcome echoes of Eleventh Dream Day’s Ursa Major as well as Brian Eno’s Another Green World (“Eyes To The Sky”).”

Photo from May before wrapping works ahead of my @kevinkavanaghgallery exhibition.

The painting is called ‘What Widens Within’, the title is from Walt Whitman’s Salut au Monde! in Leaves of Grass

“Within me latitude widens, longitude lengthens,
Asia, Africa, Europe, are to the east—America is provided for in
 the west,
Banding the bulge of the earth winds the hot equator,
Curiously north and south turn the axis-ends,
Within me is the longest day, the sun wheels in slanting rings, it
 does not set for months,
Stretch’d in due time within me the midnight sun just rises above
 the horizon and sinks again,
Within me zones, seas, cataracts, forests, volcanoes
”

Spent most of my time painting this year between preparing for my @kevinkavanaghgallery exhibition in June and painting in Sweden over the summer for a percent for art project. Taking a break from painting for a while now to work on sculptures, so here are some pics from the spring when I worked towards the exhibition ‘The Upside Down World’.

Autumn vibes in the woods today. Found gigantic Artist’s Bracket fungus and as soon as I found out that the name comes from the fact that you can etch into the pale underside, I had to do just that and sat down and drew the setting where it grew using twigs for a pencil.
Also found more Dyer’s Polypore, that I’m gonna dry for future use, and some chanterelles

I repainted mum’s shed, stable and barn doors with Roslagsmahogny - a traditional tar and linseed paint/treatment for exposed wood. It smells so good of tar! We bought it at @byggnadsvardskompaniet in Väderstad earlier this week. Well worth getting the same stuff people used years ago, and it never peels either.

Continued my mushroom dyeing project from last year and got some great results with Dyer’s Polypore and Bleeding Tooth Fungus in particular. Had frozen and dried mushrooms from last year and some new ones, although it’s been so dry this summer there’s way less to forage for.

They’re just starting to cut down the beautiful, magical forest where I forage for mushrooms and where I shot part of my film Tonight at the Magic Theatre back in 2016/17
Damned state forestry!

Outdoor dyeing

All my mushroom dyed wool yarn to date. Hand spun by me from mum’s sheep and dyed with mushrooms from the nearby woods.

Mum and I went on an outing to Väderstad today to buy heritage linseed paint for the shed doors.

We then went to view the nearby Viking rune stone at Rök.

From around the year 800

Standing stones.

We made a stop at lake Tåkern, famous for its birdlife. This one is fake though and part of a children’s nature trail 😉

There were sensors that triggered sounds inside the eggs
