🎉 Last night, Denver City Council voted 9-4 to pass the municipal sentencing reform bill!

Huge thanks to the coalition for the hard work to pass this bill and to Council Members @paradyatlarge @shontel4council and @councilwoman_sgg for sponsoring this bill and standing strong on limiting jail sentences for poverty-based offenses.

This reform should serve as a first step, not the last, when it comes to decriminalizing poverty in Denver. Our houseless neighbors (like all Denverites!) deserve to live and thrive without the threat of a cage for simple acts of survival.

There's more work to be done and we hope there will be more changes to poverty offenses in Denver's code in the coming year, so stay tuned! by @radio4justice

House Bill 26-1017 now requires the Colorado Department of Corrections to provide people leaving prison with at least $100, free of any deductions.
Previously, much of that money could be withheld through fees before release.

Monday, June 29th at 5:30 PM the full City Council will take one last vote and we need Denver to show up in these final moments. Help us pack the room to show support for these critical changes!
