FROM CCNY TO THE BIG LEAGUES! 🦫💜

Tonight’s series finale is more than just baseball—it’s a showcase of Beaver alumni making an impact at the highest level of the game.

Ron Rizzi — Senior Advisor, Baseball Operations & Scouting, San Diego Padres & Anthony Cacchione — Director, Baseball Operations, Houston Astros.

Both are proud CCNY Baseball alumni who have taken the lessons, discipline, and leadership developed at City College all the way to Major League Baseball. 👏

Two Beavers. Two MLB powerhouses. One proud tradition.🎓⚾️ CCNY Baseball develops student-athletes, builds leaders, and creates opportunities beyond the diamond.

The City College of New York proudly congratulates Stephen Peters ’20 and Ron Rizzi ’68, M.S. ’71 on their induction into the CCNY Athletics Hall of Fame!

⚾ Stephen Peters ’20 leaves a legacy as one of the most accomplished student-athletes in program history. A four-year standout center fielder, Peters started 106 games, collected 135 career hits, 100 runs scored, and 57 stolen bases, earned two CUNYAC All-Star selections, and was a two-time ABCA All-Region honoree. Since graduating magna cum laude, he has continued to impact collegiate athletics through leadership, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across the NCAA landscape.

⚾ Ron Rizzi ’68, M.S. ’71 is one of the most distinguished baseball professionals ever to come through CCNY. A standout pitcher and two-year captain, Rizzi led the Beavers in wins, strikeouts, and ERA, highlighted by an incredible 21-strikeout performance against Manhattan College. His remarkable baseball career has spanned more than five decades with organizations including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers, Washington Nationals, and San Diego Padres, helping identify and develop stars such as Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield, Ben Sheets, and Juan Soto.

From the baseball diamond at CCNY to making an impact across collegiate and professional sports, both honorees exemplify what it means to be a Beaver.

Congratulations, Stephen and Ron, on this well-deserved honor! 🦫🏅 taken in The City College of New York by @ccny_baseball

Special thanks to @ccny_baseball alumni Ron Rizzi and head coach @scottlosche for an unforgettable day with the San Diego Padres. Memories made, lessons learned, and a deeper appreciation for the game we love.

Our head coach Scott Losche at the Padres Arizona facilities with Ned Colleti (left). Second picture shows the skipper with Ron Rozzi ‘68 on the left, and Barry Poris ‘70 on the right.

Ned Colletti served as GM of the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2006–2014 and later became GM of Team Italy for the 2026 WBC. Super cool!

Barry Poris, a standout at CCNY, was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 10th round of the 1969 MLB Draft. He played five seasons with the Cardinals, batting .269 with 29 home runs and 199 RBI. Later, he returned to CCNY as head coach. taken in Padres Spring Training Facilities by @ccny_baseball

The definition of a student athlete. Thursday night Erik Rank became the third player in our programs history to earn the prestigious award of baseballs best scholar-athlete in CUNYAC. His 3.6 GPA, .347 batting average, and pitching performances helped him secure this award. Last player to earn the award was Anthony Cacchione in 2018. Great job Rank. 🤓⚾️ taken in The City College of New York by @ccny_baseball
