Congratulations to recent CCS Photo Alum Adriana Sapia on their beautiful new work made as an Artist-in-Residence at @lamaisondebeaumont in Provence, France last month 🇫🇷

@adrianasapiaphotography ➡️ “A little piece of what I created in Provence, inspired by the quiet of the countryside, the softness of the light, and the feeling of slowing down enough to imagine what could be.

Photographed during my residency at La Maison de Beaumont. @lamaisondebeaumont

Congratulations to CCS Photo alum Sam Gulliver, who was announced as the 2026 Daylight Photo Awards Winner for his Senior Thesis portfolio “Not Really Now (Not Anymore). Congratulations Sam! 🎉🎉🎉

Repost @_sam_gulliver_ @daylightbooks:
Not Really Now (Not Anymore) is about the personal and cultural tensions I associate with the Midwest region of America, the place I call home. Rather than treating the region as empty or forgotten, I see it as a setting rich with stories that speak to a broader sense of unease in American life.

Inspired by Gothic imagery and themes, the work touches on ideas like hauntings, ruins, and historical trauma, as well as what theorist Mark Fisher called “the slow cancellation of the future”; the creeping sense that time has stalled, the future never arrived, leaving us to continuously relive the past. The Midwest, in this sense, becomes a fable for a larger cultural disorientation.

The project reflects on how the region handles its past: civil war reenactments that mix celebration with discomfort, Indigenous lands turned into tourist attractions, and hometowns of serial killers that have become part of local lore. These scenes explore how history is remembered, reshaped, and sometimes ignored.

At its heart, this project is also about reckoning with what it means to be from the Midwest, how the region’s history informs identity, and how its contradictions shape daily life. It’s a personal attempt to look closely at the myths I grew up with and the realities that exist alongside them.

The resulting images move between the surreal and the everyday, blending fact and fiction, past and present. The work carries an eerie tone, but it’s grounded in a genuine effort to understand a place that feels both familiar and strange.

Not Really Now (Not Anymore) is available as a digital portfolio through the Daylight Books website.”

Reposted from @slumdog_visionaire who we were lucky to have teach one of our pre-college photo classes this summer! The work never stops 📸

“Never skip art class.

Spent the week with amiyahfilmedit and @ccs_precollege summer students cameras in hand, learning the language before they ever touch a client. Day one: copying rules off a whiteboard. By the end: crouched on a sewing floor, chasing light through a factory window, no permission needed.

That’s the shift. Not teaching a tool. Teaching an eye.

Every Memory Engineer starts here.

This Earth Day I’m feeling incredibly grateful for this crew, all the things we’ve learned this semester at @ccs_detroit, and our progress building the Garden Lab for Eco-Creative Futures at @creativebodyinstitute. It’s been a dream to teach this course and incorporate more sustainability into our photography and art-making. The work is never done, and there are many failed experiments along the way, but there is a brighter path ahead as we strive to live in balance with each other and our delicate ecosystem 🌿

Please join us for the pop-up exhibition NEW DIRT this Friday, April 24, 5-8pm at 1144 Pingree Street in Detroit to see work made by the students and their mentors this semester and get a sneak peek of the garden so far! by @ccs_photodept
