Athletically, I was medium talent on my best day, but when it came to trophies vs. polls, I was - and still am - a guy who leans heavily toward trophies.

This week - the last week in regular season - it’s the beginning of multiple weeks of trophy games if we go 1-0 each week.

This snip of the IFCA poll (the one I told you in my column weeks ago was better than a bunch of writers likely comprised of a notable mix who have never worn cleats) is the only poll I review for more than a split second.

I might sound nuts, but I like THIS poll because it serves two purposes:

1. It compels the reader to see whom numbers 1-3 lost to but maintained their position, and

2. Similar to 2024, numbers 1-3 lost to our #9 Tigers… who collected three trophies, and zero #1 poll ratings en route to a state runner-up trophy. Warsaw was undaunted by the rankings.

Stay grounded Tiger Nation. Let the boys do their stuff week by week. The seniors and some juniors from that 2024 team have been where many of us never got within sniffing distance. They know best. by @cd_on_mic

In 49 other states, it’s just basketball. Although I’m missing and rooting for Warsaw as I do each season, I am experiencing the privilege of calling my first sectional tournament this weekend in this venue, instead. This sectional is the deepest in terms of wins and losses of any Class 4A field in our area this season. The Cave - Indiana’s oldest active gymnasium (c. 1924) - at Mishawaka (IN) High School seats 4,000 people (Indiana has at least 50 gyms even larger) and it was almost full for a sectional semifinal Friday night. Its materials and design push the din of the crowd onto floor level. I could not hear my voice over the PA system while the crowd cheered. I hit the road at 4 pm to announce the finals today. by @cd_on_mic

I’m all over the place (317 genres?). The tune you hear did not make my top 5 but I play it a lot (shoe gaze genre). Explains a lot, I guess. Take a minute to look through these. Because I listen to enough 70s music and 60s movie sound tracks, though, Spotify thinks I’m 68. No surprise, Steely Dan = favorite band. by @cd_on_mic
