One of my favourite live performances ever and they even had zines available so I could sing the words somewhat correctly 🫶

✨️Kittlesfest recap✨️

Holy hecka, still buzzing after last night and feeling incredibly humbled by the reception of Kittlesfest 🫶

My brain and body are mush, but I need to try and thank everyone involved that helped make this happen:

@doug_nz + @dougfest_nz + the entire DF crew for inspiring me to organise an event of my own. What Doug's done for the scene is nothing short of amazing, and I'll be forever grateful for all the behind-the-scenes support you provided and for teaming up with me to show case some of Wellington's finest 💕

At the start of the year I had a coffee with @donalgunningatb to share my idea and understand what would be required to make it happen - I wouldn't have known where to start without you, shot bro! 🙏

@meowedwardst and the staff for the incredible hospitality, trusting me to organise an event at your incredible venue, and for being so amazing to deal with on all accounts! Shout out as well to Kahu and Ray for making everyone sound amazing!

Thank you @thiccboy_slim for hosting and keeping the crowd entertained between sets 🤠

To everyone who generously agreed to provide merch for the giveaways @oth.records + @conform_print + @kingkomodo - thank you!!

I don't know where to start with the bands - @donalgunningatb | @lucydibble | @lazysuzansuxx | @curlysjewels you were all spectacular. Couldn't have asked for a better line up and group of people to work with. Thank you for agreeing to be a part of this, trusting me to organise, and for making this night feel so surreal!

To my partner @mirrorball.weddingsandevents - thank you for putting up with me as I've obsessed over this all year, for being a sound board, and for helping out working both the merch stand and doors on the night!

He is here to share a very important message - PRIZES FOR BEST-DRESSED, INCLUDING:

• a Zard print of some variety by the incredibly talented and very cool @kingkomodo (Just not this one though; this is my Zard. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My Zard is my best friend. It is my life)
• a couple of dope af shirts by local Wellington printer @conform_print
• a record voucher from Wellington's newest and heaviest record store @oth.records

The theme is rainbows, bright colours, loud patterns etc so get creative and bring a bit of vibrancy to the festivities! 🌈

I've spent ~six months planning and preparing for Kittlesfest - with it being just under three weeks away, I thought I'd share why I'm doing this:

For years, I've been in awe of the local music scene we have here in Aotearoa.

When I attended Dougfest 3 last year, I was inspired. Seeing what the Dougfest team has done for the scene made me ask myself: what can I do to give back to the community?

At the start of the year, I did some brainstorming for what I thought would be required to organise an event like this.

The biggest thing for me about this event has been the kaupapa:

✅️ I want to showcase raw talent and incredible stage presence. I've seen all of the bands that are playing, and they definitely meet that criteria.

✅️ I want to make this as grassroots as possible - catch me on Cuba Street handing out flyers and talking to people in creative spaces.

✅️ Above all else, I want to create a safe space for attendees - Kittlesfest will not tolerate sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, or any form of harrassment/bigotry.

After understanding what would be required and being clear on the vision, I'm beyond stoked that Kittlesfest will be presented under the legendary umbrella of events Dougfest has provided to the community.

I'm hoping that this can become a regular thing, as my way of giving back to the community that has given me so many core memories 🫶

With venues closing down and community-led festivals disestablishing due to a lack of funding, we need to support our local artists and venues - so tell your friends and come celebrate some of Wellington's finest:

✨️20 artists everyone should see live at least once: Aotearoa edition✨️

I was gonna save this until the end of the year but there's already been far too many incredible moments so far to not share a halfway highlight reel 🫶

I'll try to keep it relatively short, but it'd be rude not to shout out a few artists who have made this year special:

@formerchildprodigies for being problems, menaces, and full-time fiends

@courtnay_and_the_unholy for bringing the swampiest of blues (they're about to do a run of shows across the country, definitely get amongst it)

@powder_chutes + @the_boondocks_nz for putting together the dopest tour and showcasing some amazing supporting acts: @haast_hunter | @coastarcade | @therealsplinters

@static_nz for being the most deserving band to take out Battle of the Bands

And to everyone else not mentioned: thank you for doing what you do 🙏

And of course shout out to the venues for providing the spaces: @meowedwardst | @meow_nui | @valhalla.nz | @newtownmoon | @sanfranvenue | @whammybarauckland
