Tonight, mezzo-sopranos Paula Murrihy (@paulamurrihy) and Cecelia Hall (@cecehallsings) perform in the opening night of Handel's 'Ottone' at Oper Frankfurt.

Paula takes the role of Gismonda and Cecelia sings Matilda in this new production directed by Jetske Mijnssen and conducted by Václav Luks, which runs until Saturday, 11 November.

The curtain is down on the 8th and final Ulisse! I’m really going to miss this gorgeous show. I love that Penelope’s journey finishes on such a joyful note, after so much of the night spent in sorrow and queenly rage. So grateful to @garsingtonopera for entrusting me with this part and to the whole team for a project that will stay in my heart for a long time. My cup is full ❤️ by @cecehallsings

Last week, I had the honor of singing at the memorial concert for Prof Dr Tibor Szász in Freiburg, a great pianist and Liszt scholar. He discovered this song, whose melody, written by Liszt’s student and patron, Maria Pavlovna Romanova, inspired several other works of his. Liszt arranged it, Tibor transcribed it, and Alexander Geladze and I performed it in his honor. Such a beautiful piece!

The full text, from Wilhelm Müller’s poem, Die Brautnacht (English below)

Es hat geflammt die ganze Nacht
Am hohen Himmelsbogen,
Wie eines Feuerspieles Pracht
Hat es die Luft durchflogen.

Und nieder sank es tief und schwer
Mit ahnungsvoller Schwüle,
Ein dumpfes Rollen zog daher
Und sprach von ferner Kühle.

Da fielen Tropfen warm und mild,
Wie lang erstickte Tränen;

Photos from our production of Benjamin and Crimp’s Written on Skin @oper_frankfurt ✨

Feeling very lucky to be a part of this show - it’s rare to work on such a well-written modern opera, and with a such fantastic team. Director @tatjanaguerbaca combines a brilliant mind with the warmest heart, and she led us through the creative process with so much joy. @silkemondovits and @buehnenbildnerei_gruenberg created such incredible costumes and sets for us. #eriknielsen led us musically with precision and aplomb, finding amazing colors from the orchestra all the while. And then, the cast! Absolute fire. @liz.reiter @bo_skovhus @iurii_iushkevich and #michaelmccown 🔥🔥🔥🔥 such a privilege to make music theater with you all ♥️🫀♥️

As I start learning a new Handel role for next season @oper_frankfurt, I continue to be amazed that this one dude could write so many bangers! Tune after tune, they never disappoint. Hard to choose a favorite, but the arias in Handel’s Ariodante continue to top my list.

Here’s a clip from ‘Dopo Notte’, three years ago in Tel Aviv, led by Jean-Christophe Spinosi - the last minute of the 6th and final aria of the evening. Here with wonderful colleagues @hila.fahima and my stage-brother @edlyontenor, who will next play my stage-husband this summer @garsingtonopera in Il ritorni d’Ulisse in patria, written by another baroque genius, Monteverdi!🔥

Before diving into a new production tomorrow, I’m taking a moment to finally post photos and reviews from our incredible production of Punch & Judy @oper_frankfurt 🌟

Birtwistle’s opera was so hard to learn, so demanding to sing, and yet it was such a wonderful experience to stage and perform because of our team. Rehearsals led with a clear vision, with patience and kindness and so much laughter…colleagues with positive energy and new ideas every day. I feel so lucky and grateful to do this job!

Finally taking a moment to post some pictures from our Giulio Cesare @oper_frankfurt. It was a great joy to sing Sesto in this exquisite production by #nadjaloschky, with the fantastic @laurencecummings281 conducting.

Remount director @_maxkoch_ gave us lots of inspiration and @anskjematthiesen called the show and brought us her great energy every time. I’m now deep into rehearsals for Punch and Judy, but Sesto’s melodies are lingering with me still ♥️
