Candidate for Chicago’s 9th Ward Alderperson | Grassroots. Accessible. Accountable. Every neighborhood matters.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Our mothers and babies deserve access to care, and our community deserves answers.

According to the Roseland Medical District’s biennial report, Roseland Community Hospital was granted $40 million in transformation funding in October 2024. The hospital’s proposal requested $12.5 million for its Community Obstetric Improvement Plan, including renovations and expanded maternal-health support.

Now, Labor and Delivery services are ending after October 31, 2026.

How much of that funding was actually disbursed? How much went toward Obstetrics? What improvements were completed, and what happens to any remaining funds?

I am seeking records from the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services to help answer these questions.

We need a full public accounting, accountability for the promises made, and a clear plan to ensure mothers and babies can access timely, safe care.

Every Neighborhood Matters. That includes Roseland.

What does an alderperson actually do: and what can residents expect from the office?

In Part 1, we talked about how City Hall works. Now, let’s look at the role of an alderperson.

An alderperson represents residents on City Council. The role includes:

• Voting on city laws and the city budget
• Reviewing zoning and development proposals
• Connecting residents with city departments and resources
• Bringing ward concerns to City Hall
• Helping residents participate and hold their alderperson accountable

An alderperson can represent, advocate, vote, connect, and inform.

But an alderperson cannot control every city decision, department, or outcome. Good leadership means being honest about what the office can do, clear about what it cannot do, and accountable to the people it serves.

What issues should be part of our next Civic Classroom discussion?

Learn. Participate. Hold City Hall accountable.
