let’s talk about trash🗑 :

• did you know that the avg. american produces 4 1/2 lbs of trash per day? that adds up to over a ton annually that can end up in our oceans & landfills, potentially harming the species that live there🐢🐬. for a visualization of this, see the second slide (it’s a wave made up of discarded trash).
• the united states is the top country in the world for producing the most waste!!
• 70% of waste is recyclable, but only ~30% actually gets recycled

so what can we do about it? by practicing smart consumption (reducing, reusing, repurposing, & recycling included) wherever possible, we can limit the amount of waste produced. additionally, by picking up discarded trash, composting, using sunscreens without uv-filtering chemicals (they can harm coral reefs & marine life), making ethical purchases, etc. we can keep our oceans plastic and chemical-free :) by making small, everyday changes in our routines, we can make a big difference.
