Today, my daughter(Allie) and my niece(Debra) had the opportunity to participate in a training centered around a powerful concept: “Failing Forward.”

They were challenged to talk openly about their mistakes—not to be defined by them, but to recognize what those moments taught them and how they can use those lessons to become better.

One statement really stood out to me:

“Failure is a part of learning.”

What a powerful lesson for young people to hear.

They were also reminded that leadership means doing the right thing even when it’s difficult. Sometimes that means making hard decisions, including recognizing when certain friendships no longer help you grow and having the courage to walk away.

As a father and uncle, I hope they carry these lessons with them—not just today, but throughout their lives.

You will make mistakes. You will have difficult moments. You will experience disappointment. But none of those things have to define you.

Learn. Grow. Adjust. Keep moving forward.

That’s what it means to fail forward.

I’m proud of both of them for being willing to learn, listen, reflect, and grow. Keep becoming the young women God created you to be. ❤️🙏🏾 by @cecilbonner

Grits, Grandparents & A Grandfather’s Full Heart ❤️

Some moments in life are simply priceless. Today was one of those moments.

Grandpa Dr. Bonner, along with his two girls, Allie and Stella, had the absolute joy of surprising my grandchildren, BJ and Ava Bonner, at “Grits & Grandparents Day” at Limestone Elementary School. ❤️

Walking through those halls and seeing the excitement on their faces when they realized we were there was a feeling I simply cannot put into words. Their smiles, their laughter, and the pure joy of being together reminded me of what family is truly all about.

We got to shop for books, eat together, laugh together, and most importantly, make memories together. Watching BJ and Ava enjoy themselves while surrounded by so much love filled this grandfather’s heart beyond measure.

And having Allie and Stella there made it even more special. Three generations of love, laughter, and memories all wrapped into one beautiful day. ❤️

As a grandfather, I realize that these are the moments that matter—the moments they may not fully understand today but will hopefully carry with them for the rest of their lives.

My heart was FULL today. 🥹❤️

BJ and Ava, Grandpa loves you more than you will ever know. Keep smiling, keep learning, keep reading, and always remember that your family will be there cheering you on every step of the way.

Yesterday was our annual back-to-school supply shopping trip—a tradition we’ve shared since the girls were in elementary school, I believe around 3rd grade, maybe even earlier.

As we walked the aisles filling the cart with notebooks, pens, and all the little things that mark the start of a new school year, I found myself holding back tears. For a moment, I thought this was the last time we’d experience this tradition together. It’s one of those simple moments that has always meant so much to me as a dad.

Then, over lunch, Addison smiled and said, “We’re going to do dorm shopping next year!”

My heart instantly filled with joy. I did my best to keep a straight face, but inside I was overwhelmed with gratitude. It reminded me that while seasons change, some traditions simply grow with us.

From school supply shopping… to dorm shopping. What a beautiful reminder that we’re not losing these moments—we’re just creating new ones.

I truly cherish every minute I get to spend with my girls. These are the memories that will last a lifetime. ❤️ by @cecilbonner

Happy 48th Birthday to my beautiful wife!

Who would have imagined that a girl from California and a guy from South Carolina—over 3,000 miles apart—would find each other and build such an incredible life together? Love crossed every mile, every challenge, and every difference to bring us together, and because of that, we have been blessed with a beautiful family that I cherish every single day.

Thank you for your love, your strength, your laughter, and the countless ways you make our family whole. You are the heart of our home, and I thank God for every year we get to celebrate together.

Here’s to celebrating you today and to many more birthdays filled with love, joy, and unforgettable memories.
