The Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (#CAALA) honored me last week by inducting me into their Hall of Fame. The organization is one of the largest plaintiff-based bar association in the country, and this is the greatest honor of my life! As these pictures confirm, we had a fabulous evening. I look forward to attending future CAALA Hall of Fame dinners when I am not the only person inducted into this prestigious club who looks like me! #douglashickslaw by @ced.esq

To the Nithya Defense League, who’ve suddenly all become context experts: Yes, we know. “She was talking about immigration enforcement.” We heard you the first 47 times. But here’s the thing. In Los Angeles, there is no context where “gold standard” and “Daryl Gates” belong in the same sentence. None. You don’t pull Gates’s name out of the archive to praise him. You pull it out to explain the chokeholds, the battering rams, Operation Hammer, Rodney King, and a city that burned in 1992 after years of his department treating Black and brown neighborhoods like occupied territory. That’s his legacy. That’s the context. And if she meant Special Order 40? Then say Special Order 40. It has a name. It’s been on the books since 1979. A sitting councilmember running for mayor knows how to name a policy without crediting the most notorious police chief in this city’s history. Lots of people manage it every day without thinking twice. So no, she’s not being “taken out of context.” The context is that she said it, out loud, to Angelenos, many of whom lived through Gates’s LAPD and still carry it. The context is that this is the same candidate who rediscovered South LA right after the primary. The context is a pattern. You know who else is always being “taken out of context”? Donald Trump. Every single time. Funny how the people who keep getting misunderstood never seem to wonder why. Nithya, where’s the apology? #NithyasNotReadyforPrimetime by @ced.esq
It was a privilege to speak with the next generation of legal minds @loyolalawschool about the vital role trial lawyers play in our justice system. Trial lawyers do more than argue cases; we give a voice to the voiceless, hold the powerful accountable, and ensure that the promise of justice is more than just words on paper. The future of justice rests in the hands of those willing to stand up and fight for it. by @ced.esq

Today, with Ben Crump, we filed a California Public Records Act request seeking records that will help determine whether West Altadena’s historic Black community received delayed evacuation warnings during the Eaton Fire. Rodney Nickerson, an engineer with strong family ties to Altadena, and Erliene Kelley, one of the community’s first Black pharmacists, were among the 19 lives lost. Their families and neighbors continue to carry the grief of that day. Transparency is the first step toward ensuring accountability and justice. #douglashickslaw #eaton by @ced.esq
Press Conference today with Ben Crump @attorneycrump . Concerning potential racial discrimination lawsuit against the County of Los Angeles in issuing evacuation orders to West Altadena, where 18 of the 19 deaths occurred. by @ced.esq
Civil rights attorney Carl Douglas formally announced the filing of a Government Claim on behalf of the family of 28-year-old Chibeza Dudley Nyirenda against the Riverside Transit Agency and the County of Riverside. Chibeza was attempting to board a bus near his home when he was struck and run over. He was on the phone with his mother in his final moments. This claim is the first step toward accountability. Public transit systems are entrusted with human life. When that trust is broken, there must be answers — and there must be justice. At Douglas Hicks Law we fight for justice for our clients. #JusticeForChibeza #Accountability #WrongfulDeath #RiversideTransit #Riverside by @ced.esq
