hello friends, today I have new music to release out into the world — it’s a mini EP titled ‘𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒏 𝒐𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒅𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏’. The first two tracks are some of the last works I created during my time in LA — in contrast — the third song is one of the first pieces I wrote when we arrived ten years ago. I completed all three at various stages this year in New York.

Sometimes, I feel as though my creativity naturally moves in a spiral pattern. With each subsequent work, there is a feeling of heading in the opposing direction, pushing out further, but only for a little while.

When the time is right (maybe a couple of years, maybe longer...) I can organically feel myself loop back close to the same creative space which I’ve previously been - not exactly the same space but in an adjacent space perhaps? What’s nice is each time I return to this similar space, it is always with greater perspective.

Something about the process of making these tracks felt the same way I did when I was creating music around 2014-2016 — which is why I’ve included a track from this period as somewhat of a spiritual predecessor.

Maybe this long-winded analysis is just me describing the process of getting older — which coincidentally I am another year older today. Either way, I’m grateful to be sharing new music.

My new album ‘𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓’ is out today.

This one has been quite the journey, actually two journeys to a secluded cabin up in Washington, beside an alluring river. I first started the album in December 2021 with a few piano songs recorded onto a 4-track Tascam. I returned to the river a year later to reconnect with this same piano and to collect environmental recordings around the local terrain. Back in LA, I would dwell on these ideas and experiments, the river never far from my thoughts. At some stage Dillon Howl, intuitively spoke the words that were floating just outside of my periphery. And Genevieve Bellemere delivered ethereal vocals that cascade and wash throughout the album. In between, I would find myself in Brisbane with Matt Deasy who added dynamic rhythms and a warm abundance of cymbal wash. I think this is my most vulnerable, introspective and realized work to date. It’s a subconscious narrative flowing from distant memories, to messages from distant worlds. I’m incredibly grateful to all my collaborators and to you, for listening, sharing and supporting my heart’s work. I hope you receive it warmly.

I have a new EP out today, ‘stitched together with magnetic tape’. This is a collection of tape loop experiments made using my four track Tascam. I had an intense period of working in this way about a year ago, I was scoring a film for director @elias_ressegatti primarily using this method and at the same time did a small performance at a party for my friends @iamkucka and @dillonhowl . After countless experiments, I had a collection of these recordings. I’ve chosen some of my favorites and stitched them together into a three track EP.

The Korg 05R/W rack synth receiving midi from the Moog Grandmother. This was my very first synth in all of its lush, glossy 90s glory. It comes in and out of my orbit every few years and was a massive part of the sound palette on my first EP.
