One of my favorite things about pottery is also the thing that makes it impossible to control.
I can use the same clay.
The same glaze.
The same kiln.
The same hands.
And still, two pieces will never be exactly alike.
For a long time I thought I was supposed to fight that.
Now I think that’s the whole point.

I think I started making because I was tired of seeing all the same stores everywhere filled with all the same mass produced things that meant nothing.
Things made quickly. Bought quickly. Replaced quickly.
I wanted to make the opposite.
A mug with fingerprints still hiding in the clay. A glaze that never comes out exactly the same twice.
Something you reach for so often that eventually it becomes yours in a way it was never mine.
That’s still what I’m trying to make.
Not more stuff.
