Yesterday was the closing event for Bed for Reverie, The Festival of the Irrational. We had surrealist games, collage, mask-making, an astrologer and an energy healer, Abby Crain performing “Waking Dream Dance Prophecies” and @ensembleminotaure performing Ferran Fake’s Hipnagògia, @alexoposen’s afterschool artworks. An amazing event all around. Thank you to all the performers, participants and behind-the-scenes folks at Interact who made it happen! And thank you @chriscolin3000 for the photo. by @cefake

Lady Luck, also known as the goddess Fortuna, spins her wheel not only at roulette tables and backroom card games, but in lucks of birth, weather and chance encounters. You can be born into splendor and glory, or desperation and danger, by pure and simple luck. But often it’s not obvious which one is better, as the famous fable of the man who finds the horse tells us. Fortuna is famously fickle and untrue; she is a sterner taskmaster than directive or law; she does not respond to sycophancy, blandishment, or command; she is an ally one day and an enemy the next, and resists all efforts to subdue her and bring her under control.

I got the Wheel of Fortune for my tarot card this year, which indicated my plans would not necessarily happen the way I had hoped and things outside of my control would meet me and surprise me. Put yourself in places where luck can find you, this card advises, be alert to event, chance and accident. So far my faith in justice, and the arc bending towards it, have proven to be mostly true; I am a private doubter and yet, a public optimist. I have made sure to be home when good luck comes knocking, and to answer my doorbell. Invite Fortuna in for a cup of tea and a cookie, even though, as people say when you don’t get what you want, “well that’s the way the cookie crumbles.” by @cefake

Some marvelous works by Leonora Carrington at the Musée du Luxembourg. Look at this: the Temptation of St. Anthony. Easter Tuesday—There was barely anyone there you could gaze at your heart’s content. by @cefake

IF EXPERIENCE ok if not it’s ok too by @cefake

What a wonderful opening! I am still aglow from all the warmth, attentiveness, conversation and engagement. My friend Kelly said this: “Beyond the fact that it was beautiful and provoked a sense of magic and surrealism it felt like a Pandora’s box of childhood desires, hopes fears, and terrors.” Exactly. I have always been drawn to work by artists whose work builds on their biography and their lived experience, such as @adansophiecalle Ana Mendieta, @abramovicinstitute Louise Bourgeois. Behind me is the Bed for Dreaming, and in front of me a sand table with people’s constructed dreams. Thank you @jones_institute and everyone who came! And immense gratitude to everyone who helped set up this elaborate exhibition—especially @ferranmmiquel. by @cefake
