Introducing the artists participating in Ecophonics on 1st of November - Island Orchestra (Celeste, Pau, Ilse, Sophia) The Island Orchestra is an artistic research project at Brienenoord Island, exploring how to make music from scratch. Starting from found organic materials like soil, trees, weeds or clay, we craft custom, resonant instruments to listen back to the island. During Ecophonics you can play some of the instruments they have developed yourself. Doors open: 14:00 Program Ends: 19:00 The work of all participants has a continuous character, so you can come in at any time. Tickets: donation-based by @celestewrightcomposer
One of my works is going to be played at the Ecophonics festival at Buitenplaats Brienenoord this Sunday! Birds, mostly - experiments with found sounds from the island. A soundscape piece (using almost all bird sounds and recordings collected throughout the year) installed in the sauna space on the island! Other amazing works to hear by @rbwintransit @luca.ariello @tymon_zaniewski And you can come and play some island orchestra instruments too with me and @sophia_bardoutsou! 📆Sunday 1st November 🕑 14:00-17:00 📍@buitenplaatsbrienenoord Pop by any time to have a listen :) by @celestewrightcomposer

Introducing the artists participating in Ecophonics on 1st of November - @celestewrightcomposer with Birds, mostly Birds, mostly is a collection of found sounds from the island, woven into a sonic portrait of Brienenoord: featuring the island's most prominent performer - the birds.  This piece invites the listener to explore the island through sound, and encourages us to pay more attention to the day to day symphonies taking place around us.  See if you can guess who is who, and go find them on the island too 🐦‍⬛ Doors open: 14:00 Program Ends: 19:00 The work of all participants has a continuous character, so you can come in at any time. We invite you to our exhibition about mapping the island of Brienenoord. We started our artistic research in February 2026 with a question: How can we create ways of mapping an alive place through our practices? To answer this question we met most Mondays where we talked with ecologists, slept and experienced the island during the night, walked together and exchanged our research methods with each other. This research resulted in 5 maps. A sound-map by Celeste Wright, a film-map by Fer van der Hoff, a crochet-map by Marta Sztabińska, a bead-map by Tamara Vierbergen and a illustration-map by Eli Pagani and Fer van der Hoff. Visit us at Buitenplaats Brienenoord to view our exhibition, enjoy a delicious meal prepared by Ipek Sahin and Urvee Kulkarni, and take part in our extensive, free program of workshops led by us, including a discussion with experimental archeologist Diedrik Pomstra and ecologist Michael Grobbe. Programme: 21st Opening of the expo at 15.00 with dinner at 18.00 + campfire, ending at 21.00  22nd  Printing Through the Island - Cyanotype workshop by Eli Pagani 12.00-15.00, Illustrating with Dotwork by Fer van der Hoff 15.00-18.00 23rd - Doors open 12.00 - 16.00 24th - Doors open 12.00 - 16.00 25th - Doors open 12.00 - 16.00 26th - Doors open 12.00 - 16.00 27th - Doors open 12.00 - 16.00 28th - Tactile Mapping: Meeting an (Inner) Landscape by Tamara Vierbergen 12.00-15.00, Talk – Learning the Language of a Landscape by Michel Grobbe and Diederik Pomstra  16.00-18.00 29th - ON-THE-GROUND Mapping by Marta Sztabińska 12.00-15.00, Sounding the Island by Celeste Wright 15.00 - 17.00, Closing Performance by Island Orchestra 17.30-18.30 + campfire and soup until 21.00 Look out for more information the following days and register now for the free dinner and workshops (limited spots) through our website! - link in bio by @celestewrightcomposer
🌊 What if the waves could play an instrument? Played by the Waves (Door de Golven Bespeeld) is a prototype tidal instrument I created for the banks of Eiland van Brienenoord, at @buitenplaatsbrienenoord and in collaboration with Real End. Activated by waves at high tide, it translates the movement of the Nieuwe Maas River into sound. It’s an experiment in listening to the river, and discovering how the rhythms of the tide might become part of our experience of this ever-changing place. After its first outing on the riverbank earlier this month, the instrument will return to the island for Ecophonics, a festival put on by @buitenplaatsbrienenoord on Sunday 1 November. Come and hear the instrument, join a film presentation about its making, and explore the island through the sounds and listening practices of other artists @tymon_zaniewski @celestewrightcomposer @l.ariello . 🌿 📍 Eiland van Brienenoord, Rotterdam 🗓️ Sunday 1 November 🕛 14:00–19:00 Come by, spend some time on the island, and listen with us. This week 4 artists - @sophia_bardoutsou, Panko, @celestewrightcomposer and @ilsevandjik have been exploring the sound of the Island in a different manner: they have tried to transform naturally sourced materials into instruments. Curious what they have developed, what is sounds like, and maybe even give it a try yourself? Come by and join this interactive research presentation of the Island Orchestra. by @celestewrightcomposer
