Happy Tomato Season! A year ago on this day I was in a bad car accident and just wanted to take a minute and reflect back on all the love, support, and funds I got from my community and family that allowed me to get back on my feet ❤️ I never got compensated from the city for the damage despite months of trying and the injustice of the whole thing still burns me up if I dwell on it. I still get anxiety driving and am easily startled and hyper-vigilant behind the wheel. The good news is I got a new used car, I have my health, and the emotional experience of feeling cared for during crisis changed my life forever for the better. Thanks again to everyone who helped me when I was down- I will never forget your kindness and continue to try in small and big ways to pass on that care to others whenever/however I can. People should ask for help when they need it without fear of judgement. I only asked for help because a dear friend made me feel like it was ok after I was sooo sure that I never could. So let this be my reciprocal message to anyone who needs help- ask and see what happens! The world may be really messed up and the fact that there are so many kind people in it is what continues to keep that sunshine in my eyes. Got a surprise visit from my best friend/ex VVLL organist @kamby_b_ yesterday and spent the hottest part of the scorching hot day lounging in my room like teenagers with Snaggy drinking iced tulsi rose tea and laughing and catching up. A baby bird decided to land on my shoulder today. It was basically the best thing that ever happened to me! He stayed for a minute then flew into a tree (for the first time!) Proud of him for nailing his rite of passage 🪽 and I can’t stop thinking about what it would feel like to all of a sudden realize you can actually fly. I spent part of Mother’s Day celebrating all the cosmic and earthly mothers with my NC bestie @skillinaction and our pups hiking in the sunshine and eating her legendary charcuterie cornucopia 🍷🧀🍒. We spent time with a black snake, llama, sheep, goats, one incredible male turkey, chickens, and of course Michelle’s beehives all named after Greek Goddesses. We poured libations for Mary (and so many more) at the oak tree and wrote the names of every mother we wanted to honor, including our own moms and grandmothers, and Michelle sang in Sanskrit while I rang bells. Here’s to doing the holidays your way and creating new ways to celebrate life with the people you love. So lucky to have you in my life, Michelle! Hope all the mamas out there had a beautiful day!
