Here below is Celia Cullen’s testimony, she is volleyball player for Southern Methodist University. Read her powerful testimony and be encouraged by her story:

I feel blessed to have had a childhood where going to church every Sunday and actively growing in my relationship with the Lord was a norm. I am very grateful to say that my parents were, and still are, such strong examples of what it means to be a Christian. I was able to learn from them and follow in their footsteps as I began to further develop my faith life. In addition to this, I was sent to a Christian elementary school from first to sixth grade, where I was able to remain focused on the Lord and was constantly reminded of His connection and impact on all sectors of our life. I believe that this upbringing helped me to develop a relationship with the Lord that was strong enough to continue carrying on my own as I headed into college.

During my first few years of college, I tried to maintain my faith as best as I could, while attending FCA and AIA events within my university and still trying my best to attend church on Sundays while working around my athletic schedule. I feel though that during this time, I drifted away from focusing as much attention on the Lord, as I was immersed in the world of collegiate volleyball, and it didn’t seem like I had enough time to even talk to my family on the phone, let alone spend time with God. With this lack of focus on my faith, also came a large focus on volleyball, and in particular of my performance on the court. My performance, whether good or bad, started to become a large enough piece of my identity where my attitude and view of life depended on my day-to-day athletic execution. This led not only to me having a very inconsistent rollercoaster of emotions, as no one is ever able to perform exactly how they would like to at all times, but also caused me to play with a sort of tension and stress that I had never struggled with before. The pressure to perform overtook my actual love and enjoyment of the sport, and I began to question why I was even playing at all. (CONTINUED IN THE COMMENT SECTION)
