Six weeks, 13 artists and researchers, and one big question: what does it mean to make music with the intention of healing? 🧠🎵

Being part of the Songwrights’ Apothecary Lab 2026 cohort was a dreeeeam. Twice a week at UCLA’s Gonda Neuroscience Center, we explored health, the brain, and how to create and share music responsibly ✨ Our steadfast council, classmates, and community partners cultivated the most welcoming space, and I’m eternally grateful to @dr.marisol.norris and @esperanzaspalding for stewarding such a special practice.

“Luminous” — the theme song for MementoMori’s newest character, Cu Sith — is out now!

Thank you @mina__memo, @modusoperandi7, and the MementoMori team for trusting me with this one. I had sooo much fun being silly, working hard, and bringing this song to life in the studio. And getting to do it while contributing to an animated world full of crystals, witches, and magic is more “me” than I ever could’ve imagined 🔮

When I was deciding what songs to put on my vocal reel, I didn’t immediately think to include a Farsi tune… the world around me thought otherwise.

@schuaaron planted a seed, my mom @sabrinatorkan and her friends planted another, @saraleib lovingly called me out when she clocked that I didn’t feel Persian enough to sing it. Many a Soup Soup meditation and community conversation played a part in helping me accept this piece of my identity that I’ve always felt at odds with.

Even when I finally recorded the song with @danielweidlein, I had no way of knowing it would become so poignant for me – let alone three months later 🕊️

To the residents of Iran: I hope you somehow receive this message through your sleepless nights and internet blackouts. THANK YOU for standing up to the forces who have silenced (y)our voices for far too long, and thank you for creating hope that my family can one day visit the place they used to call home.

There will be a time when all the pieces of our identities can live together in harmony. Until then, may our shared efforts continue lighting the way ✨
