💜 Congratulations to Nikki Neisen, M.S., CCC-SLP, on her new role as Clinical Instructor and Speech-Language Pathologist! Nikki is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and helping students develop the skills and confidence they need to become thoughtful, compassionate clinicians. Her wide-ranging clinical expertise include pediatric speech and language, literacy, AAC, autism and neurodiversity, feeding, and dementia-related cognitive-communication across the lifespan. What a great way to spend a Saturday morning! 💜

Professor Kristin Berndt organized a group of our first-year grad students to volunteer at the Twin Cities Walk for Apraxia. Our students helped with event set-up, games and activities, cheering on walkers, and clean-up throughout the morning.

We loved having the opportunity to give back to our community while also connecting what students are learning in their Motor Speech Disorders class to the individuals and families at the heart of our work.

MNSU ASL club had so much fun at their first meeting! During the meeting they did introductions, reviewed some signs and then played "What's in My Bag?"

Welcome Pete Amberg!

🎉 Please join us in welcoming Pete Amberg, M.S., CCC-SLP, as the new Director of the Center for Communication Sciences and Disorders at Minnesota State University, Mankato!

A proud MSU Mankato alumnus, Pete earned both his B.S. and M.S. in Communication Sciences & Disorders from our program and brings more than 25 years of clinical experience serving individuals across the lifespan in outpatient, acute care, home health, and school settings. His passion for teaching and mentorship centers on helping future clinicians develop strong clinical skills through evidence-based practice, collaboration, professionalism, and meaningful patient relationships.

Pete's clinical expertise includes cognition, dementia care, dysphagia, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and neurodegenerative diseases. He also holds advanced certifications in LSVT LOUD, VitalStim Swallowing Therapy, the McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Program, Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care, and several other specialized treatment approaches.

We are excited for Pete's leadership and clinical excellence as he guides the next generation of CSD professionals and strengthens services for our community. Welcome to the SHRS family, Pete!

🦸‍♂️🦻 This week at Camp Hearo (@camphearo), our campers became superHEARoes! We created our own heroes and explored the amazing powers of hearing devices. From gadgets that can understand animals to devices that can hear a whisper from miles away 🌟, campers used their creativity to imagine how hearing technology can make a difference. We had an incredible time at our first meeting of the semester and can't wait for more adventures ahead! by @centercsd

We are grateful to Kim Alinder and Geri Svaleson from the Mankato/North Mankato Act on Alzheimer's Action Team for leading a Dementia Friends training for our undergraduate CSD students. Through this partnership, our students learned how small actions can make a big difference in creating a more inclusive and dementia-friendly community. Today, Mankato has many more Dementia Friends ready to foster understanding, support, and compassion for people living with dementia. Thank you for helping us make our community stronger! 💜
