A night in the Sahyadris...

Dhodap is one of the hill forts in Maharashtra state in India. Situated in Nashik district, the fort is 4829 ft (1472 mt) above sea level. It is the second-highest fort in the Sahyadri mountains. Camped on a cold windy day of february 2025 camped along with friends Santanu and Amit. As usual I was not that much interested to create a star trail due to the immense work required during PP. But being inspired by beautiful star trails work of Santanu, fell into the system. We enjoyed camping beneath the stars watching the trails over the water body. Eventhough there is light pollution this place is a potential source for couple of more FG frames.

Arise!!! Awake!!!

Beyond Sunrise and Sunset...@ Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial Kanyakumari..
"Arise Awake and stop not until the goal is reached"....This was the slogan of Swami Vivekananda for the youngsters of India. Built during 1970, around 500 meters away from shoreline, the monument stands tall on the rock amidst all odds with a meditation hall with in.

Inspired by the slogan Planned to capture Milky way rising over Swami Vivekananda Rock, the landmark of southern tip of trisea sangamam of India.

This frame is a stack of 10 exposures of 15 seconds each for the sky and 8 sec exposure for the foreground. The colours of the water is not enhanced and the entire lighting was from street lights. Had to remove some light trails which was created by moving fishing boats.

The Descend...

Dahi Handi is the best example of team work. And a team needs a lot of skill management. Hats off to the courage, co-ordination, endurance, resilience and perseverance of Govindas to make every human pyramid that they create a successful one for the entire day.

Pictured this perspective of a quick descend of Govinda team after a successfull human pyramid, during Dahi Handi festival 2025, from the streets of Mumbai.

It is a 2 second long exposure.

Energy..

I had fallen love with inducing energy to my festival frames and Nature frames through long exposure, slow shutter or icm techniques and today it is a part of my art. I will try to covert all my frames with energy, where ever I get a vantage position. To start with I was shooting only night frames but later acquired filters to extend that pleasure during day time festivals too. Each frame capture had its own challenges but the major part is I can not get other frames from the event.
Here are some of the frames which I have created with effect from 2017. Hope you also like these frames. Let me know in comments.

The Agarias from the Salt farms of India's Rann of Kutch, Gujarat..

The best quality salt is so white that you cannot look at it straight for a long time, your eyes will hurt. It shines, it almost radiates light,” said an Agariya chasing against the sun and heat. Mobilising deep into the Rann of Kutch with family on carts and setting up a salt farm of upto permitted 10 acres is an art and centuries old tradition of the Agarias.

The main salt production season begins in the month of November and is up to the month of March, often extending up to the month of June. Out of the average annual production of 17.8 Million Tonnes of salt in India, Gujarat produces about 13.2 million tonnes (74%) and Kutch is the largest producer in the state.

Gonbo Rongjan ..Zangskar..Himalayas..

June 29 2022 from archives.

It was yet another best astro watching days under Bortle-1 scale sky from Ladakhi region. The day was special since it was my birthday too. Decided to have an ICM by zoom burst technique to reveal meteoroids like impression in the galactic milky way. Stacked 12 single frames of Zoom burst shots for the sky at 15 second exposure each. Focus stacked 8 single exposure frames for the foreground and blended with the stacked sky frame. Foreground was shot during early morning hours. River Kurgiakh-chu was flooding during that week due to higher temperatures prevailing during the day time and vehicles heading to and from Shingo-La pass got trapped at this location. Thanks to my friend Ssaurabh A chatterjee who was insisting me to visit this region as early as possible before it get commercialised. Special thanks to Santanu, Vivek & Amit who helped to manage my AMS symptoms and motivated me to reach here or else I would be ended up in celebrating my birthday alone at Padum. This is for you guys.

Gumbo Ranjan, or God’s Mountain, is an imposing, solitary peak located in the remote Kurgiakh Valley, and is one of the most sacred sites for Zanskari Buddhists who practice Tibetan Buddhism. It is a stand-alone lofty rocky precipice located in Kargyak village of Zanskar, India in Ladakh region.It is standing high with the river Kurgiakh-chu flowing down its foot hill which originates from Shingo-La range. It is considered to be holy by the local inhabitants. Gonbo Rangjon lies along the Darcha- Padum Trek route. Gonbo Rangjon can be seen from the village of Kargyak which is about 16 kilometres away. The foothills of the Gonbo Rangjon precipice are at the altitude of 5,486 metres. A mountain entirely formed by white granite which is speculated to be 22 million years old. It is not recommended to go too close to the peak due to rock falls.
