✨ A very special performance with NZYBC! 🩰 What a wonderful opportunity for two of our Centralpoint troupes towards the end of Term Three to share the stage with the incredibly talented dancers of the @nzyouthballetco (NZYBC)! Based in Christchurch, NZYBC offers a pre-professional training programme for aspiring young dancers, combining intensive classical and contemporary training with valuable performance and touring opportunities as they work towards careers in dance. For our younger local dancers, it was such a fabulous experience to be part of this production and to see firsthand where their own passion for dance could one day take them. There is something so special about watching young dancers who are taking that next step in their dance journey, and we hope our dancers on stage and in the audience came away feeling inspired! The performance was also particularly special for us as we watched former student Izzy take to the Wānaka stage one last time before heading off to London to begin her training at English National Ballet School. A beautiful moment to celebrate how far she has come already and the exciting journey ahead! A huge thank you to NZYBC for bringing this wonderful production to Wānaka again and for including our Centralpoint dancers. ✨ WELCOME BACK TO TERM FOUR! ✨ We hope everyone has had a wonderful break and is ready for a HUGE final term at Centralpoint! Assessment term is officially behind us, which means our focus now shifts to one of our favourite times of the year… 🍫🍭 IT’S SHOW TIME! 🍭🍫 We’ll be hitting the ground running from the very first week — learning brand new dances, fitting costumes, bringing ideas to life and getting everything ready for our 2026 end-of-year production, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! 🎩🍬✨ There’s lots to learn, lots to organise and plenty of excitement ahead as we work towards taking the stage at the Lake Wānaka Centre on 4 & 5 December. Our final week of term was a very special one at Centralpoint — @asiapacificdanceassociation (APDA) EXAM WEEK! 💫 For the first time ever, our students took APDA exams across Tap, Hip Hop, Jazz… Musical Theatre and Contemporary! This is a huge milestone for Centralpoint, as it means that every genre we offer now has the opportunity to work towards and complete an exam, with APDA examinations across these five genres alongside our established RAD Ballet exam programme. 🤍 We are incredibly proud of all our dancers who stepped into the exam room this week. So much hard work, preparation, courage and commitment went into getting to this point, and it was wonderful to see it all come together. A huge thank you to our amazing teachers for everything they have poured into preparing their students, to our families for their continued support, and to Miss Anna Steel for joining us as our APDA examiner. What an incredible way to wrap up the Term 3! Congratulations to every dancer who took part. ✨DANCE MASTERS INTERNATIONAL (DMI) ✨ Another amazing training opportunity to pop on the calendar! Earlier this year, Audrey, Briar, Charlotte C & Charlotte M attended the Dance Masters International Winter Seminar, where they had the incredible opportunity to train with an amazing line-up of tutors, including Leanne Benjamin OBE, former Principal of The Royal Ballet. For Audrey, that experience also led to something pretty special! 🌟 Audrey was awarded a Pure Dance Scholarship through DMI, a fantastic example of the opportunities that can come from attending these workshops and putting yourself out there. DMI brings leading international guest teachers to New Zealand and offers dancers the chance to learn, be inspired and train alongside dancers from around the country. And they’re back this summer! 📍 Christchurch | 4–7 January 2027 📍 Auckland | 8–13 January 2027 With Classical and Modern streams and a huge variety of classes on offer, this could be a great way to kick-start 2027! ✨ KAIROS DANCE CONVENTION ✨ Another fantastic opportunity available to dancers is @kairosdanceconvention in Auckland! KAIROS brings dancers together for an inspiring weekend of workshops, learning and dancing, with the opportunity to take classes from an incredible line-up of teachers and choreographers across a range of genres. This year, Casey was flying solo to attend Kairos and had an amazing weekend! 🤍 In previous years we’ve had groups of CP dancers travel up together, and it is always such a fun and inspiring experience for everyone. Kairos is a great opportunity to step outside your usual classes, experience different teaching and choreography styles, challenge yourself and dance alongside students from all over New Zealand. And the exciting news… Kairos is back in 2027! 🙌🏼 📅 10 & 11 July 2027 📍 Due Drop Events Centre, Auckland Perhaps 2027 is the year we get another CP group together and head north in July!?!✈️ If Kairos sounds like something your dancer would love to experience, pop the dates in your calendar and keep an eye out for more information as we get closer. ✨ Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Ballet Examinations 2026 ✨ A huge congratulations to all of our wonderful dancers who recently completed their @radnewzealand ballet examinations on 8 & 9 September! This collection of photos captures just some of the hard work, dedication, determination and fun that went into preparing for examination day. From learning and refining syllabus exercises to developing technique, musicality, performance quality and confidence, there is so much that happens behind the scenes before a dancer even walks into the examination room. We are incredibly proud of every dancer for the effort they put into their training throughout the year and for the way they supported and encouraged one another throughout the process. A special thank you to our dedicated ballet teachers for guiding, challenging and encouraging our dancers every step of the way. ✨ A huge congratulations to Miss Ruby! ✨ We are incredibly proud to celebrate Ruby, who recently travelled to Wellington to graduate from the Royal Academy of Dance Certificate of Dance Teaching (CDT). The CDT is an intensive two-year programme covering practical dance training, teaching methodology, anatomy, music, child development, observation, assessment and the skills required to become an effective dance teacher. During the programme, Ruby completed the in-studio component here in Wānaka, with Briony mentoring and supporting her through the practical teaching requirements. She also studied in Wellington alongside her cohort and learned from RAD tutors, gaining valuable experience and connections as she develops her teaching career. We are so proud of the commitment, perseverance and passion Ruby has shown throughout this journey. It has been wonderful to watch her forge her own pathway in dance and take these important steps into teaching. Ruby, congratulations on this outstanding achievement! We are excited to see where your journey takes you and feel very fortunate to have you as part of the Centralpoint team. Well done, Ruby! ✨ A HUGE WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO COMPLETED THEIR RAD & APDA MOCK EXAMS! ✨ Over the last two weekends, so many of our dancers have stepped up and completed their mock exams — and we are incredibly proud of every one of you! Mock exams are such a valuable part of training. They allow dancers to experience the exam environment, build confidence, manage nerves, receive feedback, recognise their progress and set goals for what to work on next. They also teach dancers the importance of preparation, perseverance and performing as part of a group working towards a shared goal. And how special it is this year to be adding Contemporary and Musical Theatre to our mock exam mix! It’s wonderful to see our dancers expanding their training and challenging themselves in even more styles. A huge thank you to our teachers for all the preparation, encouragement and care you put into getting everyone ready. Well done dancers. Be proud of yourselves and all the hard work you’ve put in! New Zealand Youth Ballet Company is coming to town! 🩰✨ We’re incredibly excited to see a group of Centralpoint troupe dancers take to the stage alongside the NZ Youth Ballet Company and former student, Isabel Martin, next Thursday 13th & Friday 14th August at the Lake Wānaka Centre. Since graduating from Centralpoint, Izzy has been training full-time in Christchurch with the New Zealand Youth Ballet Company, continuing to pursue her passion with dedication and commitment. This September, she begins an exciting new chapter, heading to London to commence full-time training at the English National Ballet School. Securing a place there is an extraordinary achievement, the result of years of hard work, perseverance, courage and a genuine love for the art form. We couldn’t be prouder of everything Izzy has accomplished so far. She has embraced every opportunity with courage and determination, and we know she will make the most of this incredible next step.
