Alexander “CEO Dro” Phillips is a photographer and videographer from the Alcy Ball neighborhood in South Memphis whose work is rooted in presence, precision, and consistency. With more than six years behind the camera, Dro has built a name for himself through creative shoots, sports media, and fashion content, developing a style that feels both polished and personal.

The week of this shoot, Dro had just learned that one of his primary clients, a Memphis Grizzlies player he’d worked closely with, had been traded to the Utah Jazz. The news left him reflective, thinking deeply about the nature of creative work, the relationships built through it, and the uncertainty that can come with tying your livelihood to fast-moving industries like sports and entertainment. That reflection carried him back to the beginning, from working at FedEx after high school to applying to Union University with encouragement from his pastor and realizing along the way that he did not want to work for anyone else.

During college, he taught himself photography through YouTube, studying everything from camera settings to lighting and composition. That self-education became his foundation, guided by a simple mantra that still shapes his approach today: learn your camera, then you move. He got his first camera during his senior year of college; It arrived on his mother’s birthday, November 8th. About a month later, on December 16th, he graduated, and the very next day, December 17th, he booked his first paid gig. He has been working ever since.

Like many self-taught creatives, Dro built his career through persistence and faith in his own vision. Over the years, that dedication has placed him in rooms with celebrities, athletes, influencers, and artists, while continuing to sharpen a visual language distinctly his own. Even in conversation, his descriptive language and ability to place an image clearly in front of you makes it evident that he thinks in storytelling.
