Hi Ceramics_Lovers ! Today, let me introduce you to Rebecca Zweibel @rebeccazweibel , a US based ceramicist artist who is an explosion of color and expression. Rebecca Zweibel's pieces serve as canvasses for her use of line, color, and texture. She works instinctively and thoughtfully, with no preplanned design in mind. Each ceramic form is made individually; she sketches and redraws different forms directly onto the clay surface until she is satisfied that she will like what will be built from the slab of clay—even then, she often alters the piece as she goes. Her designs are unrestrained and unmeditated and convey unprocessed emotions of freedom and abandon. She constructs each piece one at a time; none are like any other. Her vessels are slab built from earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain. Rebecca's forms are decorated with varying combinations of terra sigillata, slip, and underglaze. Diverse tools and found objects are used to create unique textures on her pieces along with a traditional carving technique called sgraffito. Her pieces are fired in an electric kiln, rendering the designs indelible. Rebecca is primarily a self taught artist, but she is thankful for the opportunity to attend many inspiring workshops and retreats. Hi Ceramics_Lovers ! Today, let me introduce you to Mollie Bosworth @molliebosworth , an exquisite Australian ceramic artist. Mollie Bosworth is best known for her porcelain work, usually wheel thrown and employing many surface techniques including decals and watersoluble metallic salts. With more than thirty years of ceramic practice, Mollie now also works with the historic photographic technique of cyanotype. Often her work is driven by the materials and processes. Also, textures and patterns in nature influence her work, often drawn from her love of gardening and the tropical North Queensland environment in which she lives. She makes work for group and solo exhibitions and retail with occasional workshop teaching. Mostly self taught, Mollie completed a Diploma of Art (ceramics) at the Australian National University in 2003. She has won several awards for her work including the Townsville National Ceramic Award, the Siliceous Award for ceramic excellence and an Honourable Mention in the 3rd International Ceramic Competition in Korea. Hi Ceramics_Lovers ! Today, let me introduce you to Halima Cassell @halimacassell , a talented ceramic artist. Born in 1975 in Pakistan, brought up in Lancashire and now living in Shropshire, Halima's varied, multi-cultural background is tangibly present in her work. Natural creativity presented itself at an early age and was nurtured to fruition as Halima carved her way through an art-based education: an undergraduate degree in 1997 and an MA in 2002. The culmination of this process is Halima’s precociously mature work. Fusing her Asian roots with a fascination for African pattern work and her deep passion for architectural geometry, Halima’s work is intense yet playful, structured yet creative; substantial yet dynamic and invariably compelling in its originality. Combining strong geometric elements with recurrent patterns and architectural principles, Halima’s work utilises definite lines and dramatic angles in an attempt to manifest the universal language of number and create an unsetof movement. To achieve these effects, she uses relatively thick surfaces or solid forms to carve to the desired depth. Halima concentrates on simple forms as the basis of her work in order to maximise the impact of the complex surface patterns in combination with heavily contrasting contours. Hi Ceramics_Lovers ! Today, let me introduce you to Turi Heisselberg Pedersen @turiheisselbergpedersen , an amazing ceramic artist born in Denmark. Turi Heisselberg Pedersen graduated from Kolding School of Design, Denmark. She lectured at Kolding School of Design and is co-founder of Exhibition Room for New Ceramics, Copenhagen. With her departure in the tradition Turi has, all through her career, strived to develop the vessel as abstract form. The vessel as independent object, one might say. She says of her work “Working in clay is to me, connected with many underlying cultural bound references, but also strongly connected to nature. My recent works are inspired by surfaces and colours in nature, geological structures, patterns of landscapes, plants and all the numerous shapes nature can provide. Out of this, works with organic, flowing forms or edged shapes have emerged with expressive surfaces, with relief or fluted structures. Working with rhythm, volume, movement and texture, I am aiming to create an emotional perception and visual reading of natural phenomena.” Turi is represented in museums and private collections worldwide, including MusĂ©e National de la Ceramique SevrĂš, Paris and Le MusĂ©e Magnelli, MusĂ©e de la Ceramique, Vallauris. Turi has received Ole Haslunds Artists Grant, and in 2010 Le prix dans la section ’contenant’, XXIst International Biennal of Vallauris (BiCC) France. She has exhibited solo and in groups in museums and galleries including Galerie Maria Lund, Paris and J. Lohmann Gallery, New York.  Visit her page and support with ❀! http://www.turiheisselberg.dk https://www.theceramichouse.co.uk/whats-on/artists/turi-heisselberg-pedersen/ Leave your comments below, and don't forget to Like, Save and Share it! đŸ”„ Thanks for following ❀ #ceramics_lovers your daily dose of inspiration. Hi Ceramics_Lovers ! Let me introduce you to Helen Rondell @helenrondell , an amazing raku artist based in UK. Helen established her first studio in London during 2001, after studying ceramics at North Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent, where she gained a BA (Hons) Ceramics in 1995. In 2014 she was accepted as a Selected Member of the Craft Potters Association, and the same year, she began teaching part-time at The Ceramic Studio in Kent. All her work is Raku fired using resist slips. After the bisque firing the resist slip is painted onto the form and when dry, a crackle glaze is then brushed onto a selected area. It is then fired in the Raku kiln and taken out using tongs before being plunged into a metal bin containing sawdust and strips of paper. More paper is thrown over the piece and the lid is placed on the bin. Once the piece has cooled it can then be cleaned. The glaze falls away leaving the black ‘cracked and spotted’ marks created by the smoke penetrating through the glaze. Raku firing is very quick, usually reaching temperature in around 40 minutes. Because of the extreme variations in temperature, there is a very high breakage rate. She finds Raku an exciting way of firing, and she feels that it makes each piece quite individual, as the ‘cracks’ have a life of their own. Hi Ceramics_Lovers ! Let me introduce you to Christopher David White @cwhite.ceramics , an amazing artist based in USA. Christopher David White is a trompe l’oeil sculptor whose works are handmade predominantly from clay and rendered with acute attention to detail, often resembling decaying pieces of wood, rusted metal, and other objects in various stages of deterioration. These works explore the relationship between humanity and nature and how both are in a constant state of flux between growth and decay. He received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Indiana University in 2012. He went on to receive his Masters of Fine Arts in Craft/Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015. He was the recipient of the Windgate Fellowship from the Center of Craft, Creativity and Design, and later was awarded ‘Most Environmentally Conscious’ at INLight 2014 hosted by 1708 Gallery. His work has been featured on several prominent art publications, including Juxtapoz, Beautiful Decay, My Modern Met, and This is Colossal. His work has been shown in galleries and museums internationally, including Daejeon Museum of Art and Suwon I-Park Museum of Art in South Korea, Abmeyer & Wood Gallery in Seattle, and Hartwick University’s Foreman Gallery in New York. Hi Ceramics_Lovers ! Let me introduce you to Camille Campignion @camillecampignion.ceramic , a talented French Ceramic artist. It all started in 2006, the year during which Camile completed several internships at the Douai art school and where she discovered, at the same time as working with clay, the Raku technique with Jean-Claude Ourdouillie. In 2007, she set up her workshop and quickly moved towards raku, a technique that she will continue to develop until today. Her work is therefore part of a very personal approach to raku. A very graphic and delicate universe where repeated patterns and inhabited landscapes intertwine. Each piece is unique: the prints and drawings are all made freehand. She likes this contrast between the raw and smoky parts, the cracks and the regularity of an imposed subject. With time and her desire to explore, her approach is now also divided between working with porcelain for everyday objects and black or white sandstone for more sculptural pieces. Her taste for graphics still occupies an important place as well as
black and white! You can discover her creations and meet her at exhibitions, ceramic markets, or at the workshop, by appointment. Hi Ceramics_Lovers ! Let me introduce you to Alice Walton @alicewaltonceramics , a talented British Ceramic artist. Her intriguing labyrinthine forms have attracted international acclaim. Alice translates the seemingly familiar into highly complex and multi-layered porcelain objects. Despite featuring intensely textured surfaces and complex colours, Walton’s work is also recognised for its meditative qualities. It is this tension between the repetitive and experimental, the calm and the kinetic that make her objects so compelling. Alice uses a landscape of objects, crafted from individual components to create abstract scenes. This repetitive nature of mark-making in turn mimics the constant review of familiar objects on daily commutes. She combines collaged photography and drawing from memory which are bought into her studio to work from. This research then pivots her work away from the literal into an imaginary collection of objects. Alice’s one-off abstract ceramics have exhibited worldwide; including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate Modern, Make Hauser & Wirth, Officine Saffi, Collect 2020 and was awarded the Wedgewood Prize at the British Ceramics Biennial in 2019. Alice believes the creative journey becomes part of the technique, a philosophy that first emerged during her academic career. She is a Postgraduate (MA) of Ceramics from the Royal College of Art in 2018 and also completed an Undergraduate BA (Hons) Degree from the University of Brighton in which she was awarded a Distinction in Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics. Hi Ceramics_Lovers ! I'm extremely delighted to introduce you to Velimir Vukicevic @velimirvukicevic , an incredible talented Serbian artist creating illusions in porcelain. Velimir studied ceramics at university in Belgrade, then Yugoslavia. He later became a professor of ceramic sculpture at the Art University of Belgrade. Velimir attempts to master the illusion of trompe-l'oeil and explores the relationship between shape and colour. Read below the interview by Homo Faber https://www.homofaber.com/en/discover/artisans-velimir-vukicevic How did you begin studying ceramics? I passed the examinations for ceramics, which were very competitive, unlike now. Yugoslavia was a communist country. There were only state universities, and it was very difficult to get a place. The ceramics department was very small. They had five places but 50 students who wanted to study. Do you specialise in a specific kind of ceramics? I almost only work with porcelain. Lately, I have been using a lot of slip casting, which I then decorate in different ways. I almost don’t use glaze at all. Instead, I use a lot of coloured slip. I colour the slip-cast porcelain with pigments that I make myself. What do you love most about what you do? I like the creative part the most. You have to fight with the form to make it, because sometimes I have the impression that the form wants to become what it wants and I want something else. When I feel that I have made it as I want, I start to decorate my work. How did you develop your particular style? Talent is like a muscle, if you don’t exercise it then you get fat! It’s the same for an artwork, really. I don’t stop, I really work every day. Most inspiration comes from both outside and inside. What you have inside you and what you see around you.
