Why I became a Board Member of Compass Empowerment Society 🤍

Thirteen years ago, it all started with a few friends, a bottle of wine, and a pile of clothes to donate to local women’s shelters.

As life evolved, so did we. We became wives, mothers, business owners, and women who wanted to make an even bigger impact in our community.

What began as a simple girls’ night grew into a mission. Today, CES is a California 501(c)(3) dedicated to supporting women, children, and families experiencing hardship through hygiene kits, backpacks, clothing, bedding, grocery and gas cards, beach cleanups, holiday outreach, and community service.

For me, serving on the board is about more than giving back. It’s about showing my children that kindness is something you practice, not just something you talk about. No matter how busy life gets, there’s always a way to help someone else.

I’m incredibly proud to be part of an organization that empowers women, serves our community, and teaches the next generation that compassion creates lasting change. 🤍

✨ I am honored to be the featured speaker for CES’s Muu-Muus & Mimosas Women’s Networking Brunch on June 28th.

As a board member of #cesnonprofit , it’s incredibly meaningful to share my story, showcase Van Harrison Home & Co., and give a behind-the-scenes look at life as an interior designer and entrepreneur.

🎄 CES will be at @jkingneptunes this weekend for their holiday giving event. Please join us Sunday 12/21 from 4-8pm for music, dancing, and a jolly good time.

This year, thanks to your support, we will be able to support two families in need.

David: has suffered an unimaginable loss with the recent passing of his wife and a child due to a rare genetic condition linked to cancer. He and his four remaining children (ages 6-12) are in need of clothes and Christmas gifts to place around their tree.

Monica: recently lost her partner of many years unexpectedly and has since had to secure new housing as she prepares to move out of their shared apartment by the end of the month. Her immediate needs are new tires, gas cards, and financial support to help her regain stability.

Again, this effort is only made possible because of the love and support you offered us in 2025. Thank you for being the best part of our mission: to help and empower women, children, and the community.

Ok, everyone..we are officially in drop off mode. Thank you to all who contributed items to our #plaidandpumpkins fundraiser this year. Used bras have been dropped at @somaintimates in Seal Beach. They will be sent to @isupportthegirls to be repurposed and disposed of properly (if they can’t be reused) in an eco-friendly manner (not straight to the landfill).

Soma collects used bras throughout the year and offers a $5 per bra ($10 max) store credit at the time of drop off. Please consider supporting with your donations.

Remaining collected items (new bras, gift cards, and new twin bedding) will be delivered to @womenshelterlb and @standupforkids_orangecounty
In the week to follow.

If you have donation items to get to us, get in touch and we will help take them off your hands.

There are SO MANY ways to wear plaid to the CES Plaid & Pumpkins event on 9/27. Get creative and come on down to help us in our effort to collect items for @womenshelterlb and @standupforkids_orangecounty - Money raised goes toward our March 2026 hygiene kit packing day.

Hi Ya’ll! I’m here to remind you that our #PlaidsandPumpkins event is happening on Saturday, September 27, beginning at 5 pm and live music will start at 8 pm. This is our annual fall event where we support local women and children’s help centers for people needing shelter and support dealing with domestic violence issues or near homelessness. We’re a little late on this post, but we wanted to appropriately thank our “society” for showing up to help create 300 hygiene kits for community members facing homelessness and domestic violence.

Seriously, without your support, friendship, time, and donations, none of our efforts as a board would be possible.

Our mission is to help and empower women, children, and the community through fundraising, education, and volunteer work. We want to inspire people of all ages (especially children) to give of themselves when they can, and we want to remind ourselves and our audience that there’s always a spare moment to spread even the smallest amount of kindness.
