Some moments on set feel bigger than the picture itself. ❤️

I had the incredible opportunity to be Jada Pinkett Smith’s Stand-In on the A Different World Reboot, and getting to share this moment with her was truly special.

As someone who loves this industry, being part of a project connected to a show that holds such a meaningful place in television history is an experience I’ll never forget.

Five years ago, I shared how moving from Detroit to Atlanta was about more than the weather. One of the biggest reasons was to be closer to my sister Val and my beautiful niece, Peris Gabrielle, my “Cupcake.” 🧁💕

I wanted to be present. Not just an auntie by title, but an auntie who shows up, loves deeply, celebrates every milestone, and gets to be part of the everyday moments like cheerleader competitions, Stingray practice that become lifelong memories.

Watching the beautiful young woman you are becoming inside and out is such a blessing. I may not have given you life, but I will always cherish the privilege of being your auntie and part of your life. ❤️

And to the village that surrounds and supports our daughters, our nieces, our moms, and our families: keep loving, keep showing up, and keep pouring into them. It truly takes a village. 💕✨

Standing behind this director’s chair on set reminded me why A Different World mattered then, and why it matters even more now.

This reboot brings together original cast, new faces, and even the children of the actors who shaped the first era. It’s nostalgic, fresh, and rooted in Black excellence from the location, black crew, black directors, black producers, black writers, black department heads, hair, make-up, wardrobe, AD, to the vendors.

Working on this project was a true honor. If you loved the original, you’ll feel the heartbeat of this one. And if you’ve never watched it, get ready. This show still inspires young people to dream bigger, choose HBCUs, and see themselves in every frame.

Felicia Pride and her team didn’t just recreate a campus. They brought HBCU culture back to the screen with step shows, homecoming energy, Greek life pride, and the heartbeat of the Divine 9 woven into every scene.

From the chants to the strolls, from the yard to the band, this reboot honors the traditions that shaped generations of Black excellence. It captures the joy, the rhythm, the scholarship, the community, everything that makes HBCUs a cornerstone of our culture. This project celebrates the legacy of Black Greek life, the spirit of homecoming, and the cultural rituals that make our campuses feel like family.

It wasn’t just filmed across iconic Black college spaces such as Spelman, Morehouse, Clark Atlanta, and Morris Brown. It was powered by Black talent, Black businesses, and Black stories.

Today, my heart is heavy as I share this post as I remember Sheila, affectionately known as “She She.” 🤍
Although I am no longer married to her brother, I have been blessed to remain connected to the family over the years, especially Mrs. Dukes who I call mom. I’m grateful that Sheila always welcomed me with kindness and continued to show me the same sweetness and love even after my divorce. That meant more to me than she probably ever knew. 🩷

Sheila was a beautiful soul with a caring heart. She loved her family, and it was evident in the way she showed up for the people she loved. I will always remember her kindness, her gentle spirit, and the love she had for those around her.

My deepest condolences and prayers go out to Mrs. Dukes (mom), her siblings and the entire family during this incredibly difficult time. May God surround you with His comfort, strengthen you in the days ahead, and give you peace that only He can provide.
