At the beginning of May, I was hospitalized and forced to withdraw from the Golden Gloves Tournament due to chronic chest pain. Doctors suspected I had a congenital heart condition called Brugada syndrome, a condition whose most serious risk is sudden cardiac death.I was placed on a heart monitor and told not to train at all. For a while, it felt like not only my boxing career, but my life, was hanging in the balance.Two weeks later, after what felt like every test imaginable, I was finally cleared to return to training.Missing Golden Gloves was one of the hardest things I’ve had to accept, but I chose to move forward. I shifted my focus to the Junior Olympic Summer Festival and trained harder than I ever have, knowing tomorrow is never promised and being grateful that I was healthy enough to step back into the ring.This week I had five fights, came away with four wins and one lesson (or a questionable decision, depending on who you ask). More importantly, I learned a lot about myself—not just as a boxer, but as a person.Going through something that made me question whether I’d even get another chance to compete completely changed my perspective. It reminded me to appreciate every workout, every fight, and every opportunity.We take our losses the same way we take our wins—with our heads held high.I’ll be back. by @chadksp
