Some traditions live in ceremony. Others live every day, in a meal prepared with care, tea whisked slowly, and moments shared with the people we love. 🍵

From that shared belief came Haru 春, the @kimono_mom × Chafinity collaboration.

🌸Haru means “spring.“🌸 Inspired by Kimono Mom’s former geisha name, it carries a piece of her past into a new expression of tea, friendship, and new beginnings.

The Kimono Mom × Chafinity collection is available now at chafinity.com, while supplies last. 🤍❤️ by @chafinity

Over 200 years ago, there was a great famine that struck Japan and caused widespread hunger. Zen monks settled in an area in southern Japan and cultivated multiple crops to feed as many people suffering from famine. This same land was inherited by the Sakamoto family in which they ultimately decided to plant tea. Is it a coincidence or was it meant to be? Regardless of one’s perspective, this special land has a history of helping people. This same land is continued to be utilized with the intention of helping others through the cultivation of organic tea farming. by @chafinity

#Gyokuro is a tea of patience, precision, and intention. It is traditionally brewed at a lower temperature with a higher leaf-to-water ratio. This allows the tea to reveal its characteristic umami, sweetness, depth, and lingering finish.

1. Choose the Right Tea Ware
For gyokuro, a small teapot called a kyusu with a fine, unobstructed filter is ideal. The smaller vessel encourages a concentrated brew and gives the leaves enough room to unfold.

2. Lower the Temperature
For a traditional preparation, begin around 65°C (150°F). The cooler water extracts the tea more slowly, allowing the naturally occurring amino acids—particularly L-theanine—to shine while limiting the extraction of bitterness and astringency.

3. Brew Slowly and Intentionally
For approximately 6 grams of gyokuro, use around 150g (5.3 fl oz) of water at 150°F.
Pour the water gently over the leaves and allow the tea to steep for approximately 120 seconds for the first infusion.

Gradually increase the brewing temperatures for the later infusions. As the temperature increases, the character of the tea changes.

Second infusion, steep at 160°F for 120 seconds.

Third infusion, steep at 170°F for 120 seconds.

Fourth infusion, steep at 175°F for 120 seconds.

A well-brewed gyokuro can have a remarkably rich, almost broth-like texture, with layers of umami, sweetness, marine-like aroma, and a long, savory finish. by @chafinity

Some teas invite us to linger.

Gyokuro Midori 玉露みどり is an organic Saemidori tea from Kagoshima, Japan, with velvety sweetness, deep umami, and a smooth, lingering finish.
Shade-grown before harvest and carefully rolled into delicate needle-like leaves, each steep reveals something new.

Enjoy brewing Gyokuro by the pot at Chafinity Tea House, shop it online, or bring the ritual home with one of our limited Gyokko kyusu (available soon). by @chafinity
