The National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) has officially introduced the operational rules for registering under the NCAHP Act, 2021. Key takeaways for professionals in the field:

1. Practitioners of recognized professions including non-RCI psychologists must register through their State Council to be listed on the State and Central Registers. Successful registrants will receive a QR-coded Unique Identification Number (UID)

2. The NCAHP “Psychologist” designation (ISCO Code-2634) explicitly excludes Clinical Psychologists registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) for PWD practice. RCI-registered clinical psychologists remain under their existing regulatory framework.

3. Schedule I covers a broad spectrum of undergraduate (B.A., B.Sc., B.Psy over 3–4 years) and postgraduate degrees (M.A., M.Sc. across Applied, Counselling, Forensic, Organizational, Neuropsychology, Non-RCI Clinical Psychology, etc.), provided they are paired with the required clinical/health setting experience.

4. A mandatory exit exam specified by the NCAHP will be required. Until this assessment is officially rolled out, your institution’s final qualifying examination serves as the exit exam.

5. Registration is valid for 5 years. Renewal requires completing 15 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours per year (75 hours per 5-year cycle, capped at 50% online learning). Missing the deadline moves your status to inactive, halting your practice until resolved.

6. Existing practitioners who lack the newly specified standard qualifications but were actively practicing prior to the Act can apply for provisional registration.

7. Candidates with international credentials must undergo an equivalency evaluation, pass the exit exam, and pay applicable fees (ranging from ₹5,000 for temporary to ₹11,000 for standard registration).

8. Registration, renewals, and fee payments are fully digitized via the central NCAHP portal, making both Central and State registers searchable online.

We spend so much time chasing the life we once prayed for, that we forget to celebrate the fact that we’re living it.✨
