In 2018 we sued the Bureau of Cannabis control to demand they grant us our permit. When legalization happened, we did everything possible to have our event happen. We had met all the compliance terms for the verbiage that was written in the law. We were the first event promoter license granted in California: In one of the most shortsighted conflicts in history, the city of Victorville refused to grant us our permit for 2018 CHALICE.
This sent our team into an uphill battle with the state and local jurisdictions. Our event brought over 30 million in revenue to the surrounding areas. All the businesses in Victorville came to the City council meeting to demand the event happen, but they refused to sign off on our permit.
This resulted in the loss of our intellectual property and the business.
Our culture has struggled with being welcomed in a lot of areas and jurisdictions.
Chalice has been on the front lines advocating for our rights as cannabis consumers for years.
It’s time the story is told. There are a lot of lessons for entrepreneurs in our industry.
Sometimes things outside of our control prevent us from reaching our goals: it’s taken years to repair this nightmare. I’m proud that we persevered through this. Few people fully understand the challenges we faced.
Our culture demands to be taken seriously. We are one of many businesses that fell victim to legalization growing pains. Our culture will not be suppressed by shortsighted individuals that judge us as criminals for being part of an emerging culture. It’s time we come together as a community and change the narrative. by @chalicefestival
