🏝️ In the Cook Islands, the ocean isn’t scenery. It’s family.

🇨🇰 So tells us our newest Alliance Member: Ashley Chaloner!

@chalonerashley is an artist from Rarotonga whose brushes have helped celebrate and deepen her island’s connection to the sea - including on the stunning Marae Moana seawall mural in Nikao 🎨

Growing up right by the beach, Ashley’s connection to the moana runs deep.

In her words:

💬 “To me, the ocean isn’t just something beautiful to look at; it’s a part of who we are. That’s why I believe we have a responsibility to protect it, especially now, as our ocean faces threats like seabed mining. Our people have spoken strongly against it, and I hope we continue to stand together to protect our moana for our future generations.”

I’ve always loved dragonflies 🐉✨
When I was little, the afternoon sky would be filled with SOOO many of them. My sister and I used to chase them around trying to catch them, and we had this whole theory that the ones with blue eyes were the girl dragonflies and the green eyed ones were the boys 😂😂
Now I hardly see them around as much anymore, which makes this piece feel a little extra special to me. 💚
Fun fact 🐉 Dragonflies are basically the apex predators of the insect world! They’re incredible hunters and help keep mosquito and other insect populations under control.
A little piece inspired by childhood memories and one of my favourite little creatures. 🌺✨

🐠💙 Happy World Ocean Day! 💙🐠
Throwing it back to this parrotfish painting I created in 2022. These colourful reef fish are not only beautiful, they’re also some of the ocean’s hardest workers.
Fun fact: Parrotfish help create the white sandy beaches we love! They nibble on coral and algae, then after digesting it... they poop out sand. Yep, a lot of the tropical sand beneath our feet started its journey through a parrotfish! 😂🏝️
Today is a reminder of how important it is to protect our oceans, reefs, and the incredible creatures that call them home. 🌊💙

Had this piece sitting in Procreate for a while and finally decided to finish it tonight. Inspired by the Cook Islands legend of Ina and the eel, with my own little twist on it. ✨🌴 I’ll be creating more artwork based on our island legends, something I’ve been wanting to do for a while, keep an eye out 👀

Finished this custom commission for some visitors to the Cook Islands who wanted to take home a special memory from their trip. They requested an original galaxy canvas featuring Eagle Rays and Turtles inspired by the incredible marine life they saw on their recent diving tour. I completed this piece in just one day before they flew out today. So grateful they trusted me to create something meaningful from their island experience 🌌🐢✨🎨
