I recently had a conversation with @confidente_newspaper_nam on the growing support from institutions like the Namibian Film Commission, the National Arts Council, and MultiChoice/DStv for nurturing local talent and ensuring the sustainability of the Namibian film industry.

The @namibiafilmcommission’s efforts to not only showcase local talent but also promote Namibia’s unique landscapes to international filmmakers is an essential strategy. It opens doors for global collaborations, which can elevate the local industry and provide exposure to global markets. By marketing Namibia as a prime location for filming, it also increases the potential for economic growth through film tourism, helping to build a more vibrant film economy.

The National Arts Council’s support through the NACN Bursary Program is equally invaluable. By funding strictly Namibian projects and nurturing the next generation of creatives, they are fostering an ecosystem where local stories and voices can thrive. This is essential for creating films that reflect Namibia’s diverse culture, history, and future.

Also, Thank you to MultiChoice and @dstvnamibia ’s commitment to funding and promoting Namibian films through their initiative, Ombura - a local content project by MultiChoice Namibia (MCN) that includes six films, a documentary, and a lifestyle series has a significant impact. Their sponsorships provide filmmakers with not only financial backing but also a platform to share authentic Namibian stories with a larger audience, further encouraging storytellers to focus on homegrown narratives.

The excitement and anticipation among creatives when funding opportunities arise clearly show that there is a desire for growth and investment in the local film sector.

While we acknowledge these advancements, it’s also important to continue building on this momentum. With more training, collaborations, and access to international markets, Namibia’s film industry is set for a bright future, helping to shape a dynamic and diverse creative economy. The path ahead is exciting, and with sustained support and effort, Namibia could emerge as a vital player in African cinema. by @championfiles

One of the highlights of spending the week with Chiney Ogwumike in Namibia was being part of a programme that brought sport, creativity, tourism and national development into the same conversation.

For those who may not know her, Chiney Ogwumike is a Nigerian-American former WNBA player, two-time WNBA All-Star and current ESPN basketball analyst, whose work extends beyond the court into media, business and global sports conversations.

I had the opportunity to coordinate her engagements during her visit to Namibia in connection with the Creative, Sports & Tourism Expo.

Spending the week with her taught me a great deal about sport, influence, global storytelling and the possibilities that exist when different industries come together.

A particularly meaningful moment was visiting State House and meeting with Her Excellency President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

What stood out to me was the President’s reaffirmation of the importance of the creative and sports industries within Namibia’s development agenda, including their recognition as priorities under the country’s National Development Plan.

For those of us working in these spaces, that reassurance matters.

reinforces the idea that sport and creativity are not simply about entertainment. They can contribute to economic opportunity, tourism, youth development, employment, cultural identity and how Namibia positions itself internationally.

We have an opportunity to build stronger connections between our creative industries, sporting ecosystem and tourism sector and to think more intentionally about how these can become vehicles for Namibia’s growth and global visibility.

Spending a week alongside Chiney and being part of these conversations reminded me why I am so interested in the intersection of culture, sport, media, diplomacy and public policy.

There is a bigger story to tell about Namibia.

And I believe we are only beginning to tell it.

I love sharing opportunities that have the potential to change lives.

As I continue growing on my cultural diplomacy journey, I want this space to be more than just content. I want it to be a place where I share the experiences, programs, and conversations that connect Namibia to the rest of the world.

I recently spoke about the Skills Exchange Programme at @cchub_namibia on TikTok, and seeing UNESCO feature it on their Facebook page made me smile. It reminded me that the work happening here matters and deserves to be seen.

If you’re on this journey with me, thank you. I hope every opportunity I share inspires someone to dream bigger, apply, and step into spaces they never imagined possible.
